Re: BaitFish's Wild Ride Update
I'm glad it's all working out for you!
btw ... that's one heck of a way to get out of going to Laguna Seca with us
... also, just curious. What do the insurance companies usually do with the car that's left in pieces? Sell to junk yard I suppose. Which and where I wonder.

Yeah, very lucky. I'm glad someone was there to help you. It's always nice to know someone would go out of their way to help a total stranger in need, not to mention possibly putting themselves in a dangerous situation if you turned out to be some lunatic killer. I'm happy this one has a happy ending and a fellow G driver wasn't hurt. I'd send those people some cash or at least a little something for being so generous and helpful.

Re: BaitFish's Wild Ride Update
Yes, it was a miracle how well everything turned out, from the crash and my being safe to the people that took time out of their lives to help me. I did offer them money, all of them in fact but none would take it. The first couple actually it turns out had given a helping Caltrans worker $40 earlier that night after he helped them get their car back onto all fours and on the road. It turns out that the same Caltrans guy helped some gals that night that were lost and running out of gas. He got them gas, gave them directions how to get on their way, and passed the $40 he got earlier in the night on to them so they could fill up at their next opportunity. I've gotta hand it to the people, above and beyond...
I offered the Caltrans guy and his wife money but they instead requested that I do two good deeds for two others. I'm 1/2 there on that one....
What they do with the wreck? From what I've read it's auctioned off to someone who's business it'd be to part it out. I've heard that the insurance will offer first dibs to the original owner but who knows. I have next to speak to the total loss adjuster and ask some of these questions. There's no way I can take the car back though, absolutely no storage space, and parting it out sounds like a job in and of itself. Three or four have already asked about getting parts off of it but I don't think it is or will be in my power to grant such. If I find out where its destination will be I'll let ya know.

Re: BaitFish's Wild Ride Update
Got a final update on things. It has gotten totalled for real. Last week I received a check in the mail and will receive the complete amount when they get the spare keys back and DMV transfer papers. The process hasn't been rapid to say the least, almost a full 8 weeks, but at least that day has arrived when I can breathe easy and not worry about getting back a car that may "never be the same again" (if it was to be repaired). My new coupe, exactly the same as this first one, has been ordered since the first week of last month so hopefully in less than a month's time I'll be back in a Gc, happy as a clam! Thanks to everyone for your consolation, concern, and assistance! Boy I can't wait for the new car. Riding a bike to/from work is getting old ;-)
