'05 6MT coupe: had it for a little over a year. Got into a '06
'06 5AT coupe: had it for a little over a year now.
I drive ~34K+ miles a year, all over L.A., O.C., and S.B. counties. bumper 2 bumper... wide open 6 lane freeways... canyon roads. I'm thru & thru a MT guy. Loved driving the 6MT. Not so much the 5AT, but I had my reasons for changing to AT. But wish every day I still had a 6MT. Driving in traffic, not a problem as many would think.
Here's the biggest complaint I have w/ the 5AT. WHY NOT A 6AT?!!! I still can not understand why they didn't but in 6 gears. I've gotten used to the AT and it's pros and cons... but the thing I never get used to is the fact that it is missing a gear. If all my driving can be done in only the first 3 gears, I wouldn't really mind as much. Computer controlled shifts = "manushifting" gets u a little closer to the 6MT, but still not the same.
If you are even considering the 5AT, get it, sounds like ur someone who doesn't "need" the MT (IMHO). When I was deciding on the options for my G, getting the 6MT was a no brainer (I didn't even want to consider the 5AT)... I did have to do a lot of convincing to get myself into a 5AT instead, the 2nd time around, and mostly due to outside factors.
Good luck and try not to have any regrets later.

By the way, I manushift all the time, missing my 6MT. It may be that I'm getting old, but I put it into the manual mode so often, sometimes I forget which mode I'm in. There are plenty a times when I'm in 'D' and I press up to upshift only to hit neutral and rev the engine during accel. And times when I don't upshift in manual mode and I rev high in a gear. Anybody have this problem or is it my senility? lol
And what's up with the + shift being up and - shift being down? Looks good on paper, but isn't it counterintuitive? 6 gears and fix the shift designations. Would make it a far better AT.
