Just got a new Liberty
Just got a new Liberty
Well, it's my wife's, but.. 2 things really **** me off about my G now..
1) Why on earth does a car that costs $35K not have driveaway door locks? (the kind that automatically lock at some set speed)
2) Why can Jeep provide an interface into their BCM that Infiniti doesn't (unless you buy Nav)? My wife's Jeep has a scrollable menu that allows you to change all kinds of parameters about door locks, lights, etc.. - I have to pay Infiniti $90 every time I want to make changes.
Infiniti sent me one of those focus group things in the mail. I'll make sure to run over and tell them about my 2 biggest peeves. Anybody got any others?

Re: Just got a new Liberty
.......don't get too pissed off about the Infiniti....... You should be mad your wife wanted a jeep!
BTW my Ford, has those features, but in no way does it compare to our Infiniti's. I'd rather trade off what our Infinitis do have, for truly minor things like fatory settings.
Oh and if I do go into Infiniti, for something minor, they change things like: auto healights timer, and other things for free.
Keep this in mind..... Infiniti did make this car very affordable, (there are trade offs) and its too nice of a car to compare to a jeep let alone a liberty!

Re: Just got a new Liberty
Good points all - I guess I've just been driving my G so long that I've forgotten its good points. Don't be dissing the Liberty, though - it's really a pretty nice vehicle, if you get the loaded version.

Re: Just got a new Liberty
The G has homelink and the auto dimming mirror - the 90K Porsche Cayenne doesnt. Not all cars can have all options - I bet you wouldnt swap the G engine for the Jeeps?

Re: Just got a new Liberty
I just purchased my wife a Chrysler Pacifica ... You can change most of these types of settings yourself. Here are the ones I can remeber changing. Auto door locks on/off... Unlock all doors on exit on/off (open drivers door and all doors unlock)... Unlock all doors or just drivers door on unlock from keyfob. Delay headlight cut off 30, 60, or 90 seconds... Headlight flash/horn setting on lock from keyfob.
Being able to change these settings in a user interface is a really nice feature of the Pacifica. I wonder home many manufacturers will implement this feature???

I'd have to agree with Blitzjb and Mooser. I have owned three Jeeps in the past nine years. One was the older sport model and two were Grand Cherokee. Every one had its share of problems. Ever since my wife got her hands on our G coupe back in the spring, she refuses to drive the Jeep. I don't blame her. As a final note, over the last ten years I have also owned six Japanese vehicles. Never once did I receive a recall or visit the dealer for a single repair.

Question for 2003blueG35:
When you said
"Here are the ones I can remeber changing."
did you mean on your wife's Pacifica or on your G35? I remember reading about turning off the horn-on-lock, but is there an easy way to change some of the other things? I'm especially interested in the
"Unlock all doors or just drivers door on unlock from keyfob"
option. I know it's just one extra push of the button, but pushing the button just once would be great. Thanks.

What is your point? My G35 has had 3 recalls. The service at my Infiniti dealership has been the worst I have seen from any dealership. If it were not for the bad sales experience and multiple bad service experiences at the local Infiniti Dealership my garage would have a FX45 sitting in it... I hate to say this but I doubt I will purchase another new Infiniti or Nissan. Which is a shame, because I buy a couple of new cars at least every two years.
I have owned '01 Expedition, '01 F150 and own a '00 Excursion. Only the Expy has had recalls. One recall for seat belt latch and one for tires. All of these have had ONLY regular maintenance.
I had a V6 '00 Accord that I got rid of in less than a year because of a transmission "slip" at around 35 mph. Most of my driving was around town and that hesitation just became too much for me. Honda said it was "normal". Besides the S2000, I have not looked at another Honda since. I owned three other Honda's in the 80s and 90s.

Re: Just got a new Liberty
Wow.. I didn't mean to start a catfight about recalls and relative quality.
Since 1996, I've owned Chevy and GMC pickups, Toyota Tundra, Rav4, Highlander, Sequoia, New Beetle turbo, Nissan Maxima, Jeep Wrangler and Liberty.
Contrary to what people say, the Toyotas were among the worst of the bunch - decent build quality, but absolutely crummy service experience and I even had to lemon law the Tundra because the brake *system* had to be replaced 5 times in one year. Add to that the ~2-3K premium you are asked to pay because "It's a Toyota" and I say "Adios".
The Nissan Maxima (and now my Infiniti) have provided the best ownership experiences. Good service (excellent at Infiniti), reasonable sales staff and a car that's every bit as good if not better than a Toyota, but cheaper because they don't charge the "It's a Nissan" premium.
While the Jeeps have been middle-of the road in terms of quality and service experience, the overall ownership experience has, for me, been better than Toyota or GM. I loved my Wrangler and if I hadn't needed a different vehicle at the time, I would never have sold it. The one bad thing about jeep is the seats - they suck.
I'd have to say the VW was bottom of the barrel - the car was a POS and their attitude sucked. I'll *never* own another VW.
I think beyond build quality, it really boils down to the dealership - if they are good and treat you right, you have a good ownership experience. If they are bad, you can't wait to get away from them (and the vehicle).

Re: Just got a new Liberty
Sorry gunga I did not see your post before...
The Pacifica has an interface to change those settings.
The G35's setting can be changed by the dealership ... I have found by discussions here that the more they do not want to do that for the customer the more they charge.
Here are the setting that the dealer can change on the G35.
