Re: Lost Keys!!! Yikes!
If you lose keys, the only way I know to be sure is to have new keys issued and encoded at the dealer.

Though losing keys is never good I wouldn't worry as much since the valet key will only open the driver door. I was told by my sales person that it cannot open the trunk (moot point since the trunk release is inside near the drivers door), nor can the valet key start the car, (Most important). So worse case scenerio some could get in and take whatever is loose in the car. Watch out for the price of new keys and encoding, my dealer also told me if this happens it costs about $180 a for new recoded ones. Yikes!

Losing the valet key is not a good thing, but it is not that bad...
It is possible to reprogram IVIS so that the lost key will not work. I'm not sure if you can do that yourself or not, but the dealer can do it.
The valet key will start the car. It's called a valet key so that you can give it to the valet, and they can park your car, but not get access to everything in the car.
You can get a new key if you want, but definitely get the dealer to reprogram IVIS so that it only recognizes the remaining keys.

I didn't pay attention if it was a sedan or coupe but with the coupe the only thing the valet key can't do is open the glove box. As stated before, it will start the car and you can open the trunk from the inside.

You should be able to disable the trunk release via a switch inside your glove box. That way, when you lock the box, they don't have access to your trunk.

Hmmm, now I'm confused. You guys all got a key that is all metal an clips inside a plastic credit card holder right? I have it in my wallet right now. I'm pretty sure the Sales Lady told me this was the Valet key and it says on the plastic card shaped key holder that it will only unlock the door. Of course now that I think about it, it doesn't make much sense for the key not to work in the ignition for the valet. If that is true then what the hell is this key in my walet? lol. I guess I never really thought much about it since there is no F#cking way I'm letting a valet touch my car, he he. Sorry guys, guess I better go back and read my manual. Peace.

OK, here is the deal. The key that you have in your wallet is called the "Credit Card Key" - It is NOT the valet key. All this key does is open the door - that's it. It was meant to take care of case where you lock your regular keys inside the car.
My dealer had told me that certain customers cannot come to pick up their cars from service during business hours, so they ask the service dept. to leave their regular keys locked inside the car. Then they come in say at 10PM, and using that credit card key, open the door, and use the regular keys that were left by the service dept. to drive off the lot.
The valet key on the other hand, looks pretty much exactly like a regular key. It can do anything a regular key can do, BUT, opening the glove box - in which the trunk release switch is located. This way, if you have to have car parked by a valet guy, you disable the switch from the glove box, lock it with YOUR regular key, and give the valet guy, the valet key. Now he can open the car, drive it off (for parking purposes only - hopefully), but he cannot open the trunk.
I hope this helped to put things into sense.
