F*@#ing Possum!

SO im driving home last night, and as im driving, I see a dead possum but it was too late! Luckily it cleared my lip but it somehow managed to hit one of my o2 sensor wires and broke the plastic clip that holds the male and female connectors together. I went under there and re-connected them and taped them together, but I still have a check engine light. I am curious, does it take time for the check engine light to go away, or do you think maybe the o2 sensor itself got messed up?

eesh I hope it didnt totally F up your o2 sensor... I would try unplugging your battery for a little bit to reboot your ecu... if that doesnt work then I would consider filing a comprehensive claim on your car insurance (depending on the cost of your deductible)

my friend who is very good with cars, 240's mostly, told me that even if i fixed it, the CEL will stay on for a certain amount of ignitions or something, and then it should go away... anyone heard of this?

Yea I might try unplugging the battery if it keeps up. Thanks!

Really dude? I tried it today for the first time, and nailed it on the first attempt.
Msedanman wrote a great how-to guide on ECU Reset. His instructions worked like a charm.

i believe you can also unplug the battery to reset the ecu can you not? I read a post on here yesterday, something about 1 min = 1st level of memory, 5 minutes is 2nd level and theres some other way to clear the 3rd level of memory but I forget.
