I was told by my salesperson that the local Infiniti dealership uses a synthetic blend. I read the owner's manual and don't see anything about that. Is there a certain oil the dealers use? Is it Nissan oil or some major brand? I thought I'd get a quart to keep in the garage. Thanks.

If your concern is just to have the same type of oil at your house that the NIssan/Infiniti dealers use... don't waste your time. All common motor oils are compatible with eachother.... across brands, weights and synthetic vs dyno. Just go pick up a quart of 5W30 Mobil 1 or Castrol(or whatever else you feel is a decent brand) and keep it around in case you should need to add a quart to the motor.

Where are you coming with this crock of crap??? Have you actually ran some of those 'synthetics' they market as 100%??? Mobil 1 is not comparable to something like motul, redline, amsoil, or rp

I recommend Royal Purple. I've used it for years in all my cars; I'm very happy with the results!

Dude.. you need to relax, and stomp chomping at the bit to try to rip someones head off with rude and misguided responses like that... and take the time to read what I actually wrote. I said COMPATIBLE not Comparible.

Mobil-1's current "synthetic" now(and for about the past 2 or 3 years) uses a class 3 base stock, so just like normal(non-german) Castrol, they slip by the loophole in the classification systems for Synthetic oils and can label it as such, when it is not truelly a pure synthetic(PAO-based).

So you can go ahead and ignore what he said... and buy a quart of whatever oil you want... since they are all COMPATIBLE.

I called my dealer today and was told they use Castrol 5w30 Syntec Blend. I've never used Castrol before, but of course have heard of them. I've never had an oil problem with any vehicle so I'm sure it's fine.
Thanks for the responses.

Go ask RP what type of base stock they use and see if you get an answer(or lack of an answer)
