Am I been Robed? (bodyshop) Advises needed...

i just came back from body shop to get my painted 06 headlight..jeez...they charge me 225 for it..i was like..wtf....they claimed that they spent a lot times on taking the front bumper off and bake the headlights...but is 225 a reasonable price?? they also quote me 650 painted on my Impul sides, they said they have already spent 5 hours to test fit it ( sounds like BS to me) and another few hours to prep them, I think its a bit overprice, help me..G fellows....

If you didn't disassemble and remove the headlights yourself, $225 is CHEAP! Fitting sideskirts and making aftermarket kits fit correctly does take a while, I would believe 5 hours if they didn't fit right. The holes have to be drilled, new inserts have to be installed etc. and then paint etc.

$250-300 for paint, another $300 for fitting, its not cheap, but its not outrageous either as long as it turned out well and you are happy with the work. I've learned my lesson looking for the best deal on paint, I'll gladly pay more for the work to be done right the first time.

As for other G's in seattle, I know most of the guys on this board in the area as well as alot of the 350z guys as well. If you want more info on meets etc, start hanging out in the northwest section of this board and of my350z.com, thats where we post most of the meet info etc. I'm from portland originally too and went to school in corvallis, I'm guessing you go to UO?

I agree - the headlight seem like a deal, for sure.

The Impul sides however??? Are they authentic Impul? Is so, they take 1 hour to install(test fit prior to install as well - once they are test fit, the install after paint is about 10 minutes) - if you've NEVER done that work before, MAYBE 2 hours. Paint is about 1 hour to prep them and then shoot.

Your looking at a max of 3 hours - including prep and paint time, plus likely about $100 - $150 for the paint kit. sounds like you spent about $200 too much, but they had to fix them and do other work to make them fit, which is somewhat common on non-authentic, then you're probably OK.

Rick
