How much does it cost to insure a coupe?

I really want to buy a g35. I've saved for a year and have enough for a big down payment. I'm making a big step up in my vehicle choice (used to have a Nissan Sentra, so insurance was pretty cheap), but I just did an insurance quote online and it said $1,200 for 6 months. Does this sound about right?

varies too much by state to be useful quoting you what I pay.. But, I can say it was less than 10% more than my 2k maxima.

without knowing what coverage that's for, your age, driving record and other factors there is no way to know that.....seems expensive to me, unless you are high risk.

I'm paying around $600 per year for full coverage with a $250 deduct on comprehensive....but i have no accidents or tickets.

Well, I am 29, chose mid-level coverage (just to see what the price range is). I HAD a clean driving record until I got into a car accident 3 weeks ago (I was at fault). I knew the accident would bump up my rate, but this much?

GThirtyFive-

That really does sound high. I just insured my coupe which will be here on Wed for $2K/yr. I'm 26 with two accidents and two speeding tickets on my record (I'm in CT). Difference may be that neither accident was my fault. Have you tried Geico? They always seem to be the cheapest regardless of what vehical I'm insuring. Good luck man!

Blah I'm 19 and have had two accidents. I have full coverage and paying over 800 a month! I'm signed up with All State and am insured under my parents name just to lower the insurance but I'm still paying a ludicrous amount.

Damn, you could buy a house with that payment for insurance. Not even Andrew paid that for his SRT-4. Maybe your parents should shop around. It does pay to shop.
I hope you hug and thank your parents everyday for helping you out this way.
Take care and drive safely.

Yeah, I tried Geico:

Here is a copy of your GEICO General rate quote to hang on to.

Total Premium: $1258.40 for a 6 month policy

I can get my car payment to about $340 a month with my down payment, but I don't see myself wanting to pay $200 a month in car insurance also.

For the giggles, run the quote with another car like a Honda Civic and see what happens. I know with Andrew it did not matter the car, it's the age and etc that matters mostly.

Re: How much does it cost to insure a coupe?

I go through Liberty Mutual in Northern Cali (Bay Area) and I have the following coverage for $750 per year (not 6 months):

1) $500 deductible
2) Liability = 100 / 300k
3) Collision
4) 26 years old (no tickets in Cali - 3.5 years living there)
5) One accident in 3 years, but not my fault (some woman made an illegal u-turn in front of me - from San Diego - didn't know where she was going, nor did she pay attention to street signs)

That is my baseline... My friend has the same G35 6MT in NY and is 25 and pays $3,400 per year. Just varies...

Re: How much does it cost to insure a coupe?

I'm 19, live in New Jersey and have been in two accidents. Neither were my fault. I Pay 1200 a year for full coverage. First accident, some girl rearended me (hard.. i had a volkswagen sign literelly stuck in my trunk for weeks). Second Accident, some old guy decided he wanted to switch lanes while i was in it. Hit me and pushed me into a curb.. ouch. Rims dead. But this was my old car, so don't cringe guys.. the G's still safe Once you're old enough to collect social security, they should re-test you evey time you recieve a check.

I'm in NJ, Age 29, no points, one no-fault accident two years ago (hit a pot-hole) but still paying crazyly high on insurance!

I have AIG, no GEICO in NJ.... FYI -> NJ insurance cost lots of $$$. I can't wait till I move to PA.

I pay $2400/year standard $500 deductible full coverage.
