So I drove by Infiniti today and saw the LAST '07 G35 6MT coupe with dealer plates waiting to be picked up by the lucky bastard who bought it. It was a LR with everything except Navi. Probably bought it for less than 40G's.
This was the car I was hoping would stick around the lot when the G37's come and I make my final choice between the two.
They still have 3 coupes left (SS, BS, LR) but all 5AT.

Just Bought an 07

Hey I caught on to this forum during down time at my new job.

I've finally been able to afford my dream car, and a week from today I pickup an 07 Infiniti G35 Coupe 6MT.

The reason I decided to post was because of how cheap I'm buying this car and why it is so cheap and the research I've done to justify it.

This car was originally purchased in February of this year brand new and then was repossessed this month (July 07). The driver managed to rack up 4,000 miles before it was taken from him.

The cosmetic defects are limited to a long scratch end to end on the back bumper with a crack on the driver side corner (rear) and scratches on the front driver side rim.

The research I've put in tells me it will cost me around 185$ to get the rim re powder-coated, and to buy a brand new rear bumper and have it painted will cost me close to 650$ give or take (I've gotten 3 estimates in that area).

My plan is actually to wait till next spring, buy a nice set of "summer time rims", and I may never even touch the rear bumper, and if I do it will probably be to add a body kit anyways (hoping for spring 09 to go all out cosmetically - but I'll be putting close to 10k under the hood this coming spring 08).

So anyways... this car is a 2007 Infiniti G35 6MT with the highest end interior package (Nav, Heated Seats, Dual Climate Zone, Bose, etc.) and is base msrp at $39,750 on kbb.com

The dealer was asking $34k to start, I was able to talk her down over the phone before ever seeing the car to $32k. I used the "I'll just wait for the G37 for that price" angle....

When I arrived at the dealership (2 hours away from my house) I made a pitty case about how she didn't tell me about the cosmetic defects, although I had seen pictures and noticed them on autotrader.com (where I found the vehicle).

I called a few people infront of her to get a quote on the replacement of the rim and bumper and to have the whole car repainted and when I told her my quotes (which I inflated of course) she said she would drop it down to $31k and couldn't go any lower. This was about 700$ short of the repairs from where we were. I told her I was going to walk and that I was really upset about her business manor.. and I did, drive home, 2 hours.......

This was last week from today (saturday) and I called her today and closed the deal. I asked if she had any other bites on the car, she said yes of course, and then I told her that I would take another trip down and buy it cash $29,500 she said she couldnt do it.

She called me back about 40 minutes ago and said that she worked it out with the bank, I wired her $300 to hold the car and she will have it detailed, filled with gas, all fluids changed and interior detailed. If I didn't work such a tough schedule I'd pick it up monday, but next saturday is my next day off and thats when I'll be grabbing it.

To conclude:

2007 Infiniti G35 Coupe 6MT --- 4,000miles --- highest end package
---cracked rear bumper (650$)----scuffed up rim (185$)----

I will drive this car off the lot for $29,500, more than $10k less than MSRP.

I will post pictures and more details when I get it home.

PICTURE UPDATEthewave:

These are the dealer taken photos they had on autotrader.com...

In the first one you can see the extent of the damage to the rear bumper - sort've boxed out the rear corner. Its hard to tell but thats about a 3 1/2" vertical crack

Here you can see the damage to the rim that I spoke about....

Actually, no. I still only have 41K miles on my 04 sedan, so I don't think it is on it's last legs yet.

Actually, now that I've had a "dream" car, i think I'm more open to a wider variety of cars for my next one. Infiniti M if I'm willing to spend more, a new Infiniti G if I just want a new and improved version of what I have. Or a wider variety of cars depending on how I want to go. Hybrid for better mileage in an age of $3 gas. A cheaper sedan for basic transportation (since the G didn't actually change my life, just gave me a more fun car to drive).

Personally, I think it was a great move and I couldn't be happier with my decision.

Think of it this way, the first time you saw a G35, what did you think to yourself? I know I personally though, "Damn, what a gorgeous looking coupe that is. THAT, will be my next ride regardless of the work it takes to get there."

Now think back to your first impressions of the G37. I for one thought, "Well, it's OKAY, don't like the back much, or the front, or the roofline, I GUESS the sideskirts are cool."

For me it became an easy decision after some thought. Good luck with whatever path you take.
that was pretty much exactly how I evaluated this... Just bought an 07 G35 coupe BO 6MT in April (so I still had my pick of the litter)...couldn't be happier...
