Re: ordered B&B

No gaskets are necessary and you should be able to install it in about 30-45 mins. Use some kind of lubricant on the stock rubber hangers, it's a lot easier that way.

Re: ordered B&B

The installation will greatly depend on the tools you have on hand and whether or not you have access to a lift. I was working under ramps I set the rear tires on. They're roughly about a foot high (actually maybe less - more like 10"), which is more than adequate to work under the rear and mid section of the exhaust system.

The rear section of the exhaust (axle back) is held in place by three rubber mounts attached to the body and the mid pipe connection that extends to the fwd of the car. The mid pipe section is easily bolted apart and the two sections can then be pulled apart. There is a small ring gasket here, which will most likely be replaced with a new one that's included with your system (my Fujitsubo came with a new one). There's also a grounding wire attached to the system which has one bolt holding it in place. You'll need to remove that and reattach it to the new system.

From the three rubber mounts, the rear passenger side one (you'll know what I mean when you're working on the system) is the easiest to remove. The other two are at either side of the exhaust and extend up to the body of the car. You can try and try and try to pry these out with WD40 or some other lube, but they're a bitch to remove. The best way to get to them is to actually remove and pull down the whole mount from the body which is held up with three bolts. I found that with some handy socket attachments the bolts on the drivers side are accessible, but for the passenger side, you may have to remove the rear diffusers / under body components (where applicable) in order to gain access to them. Once you get both sides off, the whole system will simply come down.

I was working on my back, so I basically pulled the system down on to myself and then out from the rear. A dolly of some sort would also work just as well.

From there, the mid pipe is very easy to remove. Two bolts and one mount, that once again is easier to remove in its entirety than by trying to wiggle it off. You do have another gasket here and I'm sure the B&B kit will have new hardware for you to use in the kit.

Now that you have the whole system off, its a lot easier to work out the rubber mounts. Use a little WD40 and a screw driver to pry them off. Be careful not to tear them! Installing them on the new system is easy, just remember how they go on. Do one mount at a time.

You're now ready to install everything back up. If you want, for $hit$ and giggles, go ahead and give you a G a start without the system. It'll sounds pretty sweet!

I got my stock system off and my Fujitsubo system on in about an hour working on my back with every day hand tools in my garage. If you have access to a lift and an extra set of hands, that time can easily cut by 15+ minutes.

If after you install the system you notice the tips are not straight or one sticks out further than the other, don't get all crazed up! This is an easy fix! You can adjust this by bending up, down, back or fourth the two ends that hold up the rear section of the exhaust system. This will position the tips where they should be. Depending on the system, some can be done while the system is on the car, but for others, you may have to take the system back down to adjust it (bend the hangers).

Good luck and if you can, post up some pics, sound clips, and let us know what you think of the B&B! I had a race edition tri-flow system on my M3 and I loved it! Great sound

OH and lastly, I'm not sure if B&B is using either just chambers or a packed type muffler in the G system, so it may actually take a few miles before the exhaust really opens up and the sound is consistant.

Re: ordered B&B

That's weird. We buy our B&B exhausts directly through them and there hasn't been a problem with ordering them recently?

Re: ordered B&B

They might be confusing the exhaust with the headers that I believe B&B does make for Nismo. Grubbs has the exhaust for $840 and I know I have seen it on other sites as well. Do some searching and you should be able to find it. BTW, the muffler is tucked up under the car - a plus in my book - and is very hard to see (unlike Borla and some others) unless you get down to ground level.

Re: ordered B&B

so i guess its true that one can now only buy from Nissan dealers (the B&B) it used to be only headers but now all B&B have to be bought through nissan dealers. i called Grubbs and got it through them thanks for the tip. i ended up paying about 30 bucks more but i can trust them. and they had it in stock. has anyone had a bad experience through them? they have to send it frieght for some reason to fort lauderdale florida. thanks again. John

Re: ordered B&B

Grubbs gets very high marks from just about everybody for their customer service. Their prices might not always be the cheapest, but they are trustworthy and will take care of you. I still think you can find the B&B at other sites as well - vividracing.com and hopupracing.com come to mind and there are others as well. It doesn't make any sense for Nissan dealers only to stock these as B&B makes exhausts for many applications, not exclusively for Nissans. Let me know how you like your exhaust when you get it. Its not a hard install, but unless your like me and like to do your own work you might be better off just paying $80 bucks (no more than this - if you have a lift and air tools its a 1/2 hr job) for an install.

Re: ordered B&B

In reply to imRACERX...

You can clearly see the Fujitusbo exhaust system from the rear of the car. With its massive 4.5" tips and high polished surface, its easy to see it ain't stock...

B&B however uses a much smaller muffler can, which from what I have seen online, tucks more up inside the rear of the vehicle, making it less visable. B&B also uses tips similar to that of the oval NISMO type, which if you ask me, don't look half as good as the stock round ones.

In the sound dept, the B&B is noticably louder and raspier than the Fujitsubo. It's "pitch" if you can call it that is much higher and pretty much goes hand in hand with the V6 under the hood, whereas with the Fujitsubo system, the sound becomes much more deeper and lower in tone, sounding more like an exotic V8 than a typical Japanese V6.

Quality wise, both systems are top notch! Price wise they're both pretty much the same - around $825-$850. Both systems will yeild you an honest 4-6 ponies to the rear wheels, and both systems are easy to install....

So it all boils down to your preference in sound. If you want something a little more "racey" then the B&B is the way to go, but if you want something with just a tad more grunt than the stock system, then go with the Fujitsubo system....

Here's a vid of the B&B system on a 350Z. . .
