i plan on getting a 6mt coupe soon. i dont want any silly things like navi or a premium package. ill do all the upgrades on my own (regardless of price) and it will look sicker than any of the stock upgrades. but i just wanted to know what are the disadvantages of a sunroof?

Re: Sunroof

disadvantages?

Less headroom for tall people in the front. I'm 5'10" (ok 5'9.5"....) and I'm not near the top.

It adds weight...

But when it's warm out, oh man is it beautiful. It was the only option I got on my car, and I definately think it was worth it.

Twlight blue/Willow 6mt.

Re: Sunroof

My order will be coming in late Feb. early March for a 6mt sunroof only. The only real disadvantage is that you don't the Homelink/Mirror dimmer and autoleveling headlights that you would get wiht the Premium package. I plan on aftermarket radio upgrade, I've installed simple stereo setups in my last 2 cars, its always better than stock.

The premium includes sunroof, bose system, dual climate control, auto dimming mirror, auto headlights and homelink.

Do you really want to skimp on these last few options on a $35k car? There probably aren't many 6MT available that don't have premium. The auto dim mirror is pretty nice at night. The bose sys isn't great but it is still nice to have, dual climate control is pretty good for trips and if you have a garage/house or get one, you are gonna wish you had that homelink in your mirror. The homelink mirror alone is a couple hundred bucks if you buy it seperate later on.

Re: Sunroof

haha, i just realized you only asked aobut the negatives to the sunroof. there pretty much arent any. you can crack the sunroof when it gets hot without having the wing blow directly at you, and unless your really tall or taller and like the seat height adjusted all the way up there should be no headroom issues.

Re: Sunroof

extra weight
higher center of gravity hurts handling
less headroom
another possible source of squeeks, rattles, etc.

I think they're all outweighed by a couple drives in the evening during summer when it starts to cool down.

Re: Sunroof

The sunroof on the Coupe is nice. It's very quiet when open or cracked. Must be the low coefficient of drag. So there's no negative associated with wind noise.

Sunroofs on my other cars (4Runner and Murano) are too loud when opened to ever actually drive with them open. We had to get the wind deflector for the Murano, which helped a great deal. There's no need for the deflector on the Coupe - although Infiniti sells one.

Re: Sunroof

Im tall, 6'3.5'' 230lbs and I really don't have trouble. I don't even have the seat all the way back, or tilted that much. I just have it set to the floor, and I'll fine.

I love the sunroof, even when the temp reads 0. Yeah ZERO!!!

Re: Sunroof

WRAH's got it right! The only negative about a sunroof is havin' it open when its 0. Once ya got one, ya never want to close it! I left one open in another car and a surprise rain storm came along while I was gone. That kinda su--ed.

Re: Sunroof

Uhhh. One thing I didn't see mentioned was the difference in color, if you don't get a black coupe. It's a low car, so in any color except for black, there will be a black spot there... Otherwise .. Premium package is anything but "silly", I mean navigation can be passed, but premium package has a lot of cool things.

Black / Black 2004 GcoupeMT. Premium. Splash Guardz.

Re: Sunroof

my g was an order. only factory option i wanted was sunroof. i always have the slider open for light. i'm 5-10 - 5-11, no impact on headroom. someone commented that if car not black, it stands out. it looks just fine.

my previous cars (except for many years back) had stock radio. so to me, the 160 watt system was just fine. i also heard the bose isn't really worth the 800-900 they charge. homelink, no biggie for me. headlights leveling? i've been driving for 25 years and all is ok.

get the splash guards.

04 6mtC, DG - possibly most babied G on the board.

Re: Sunroof

I definately agree with the splashguard comment... I didn't get mine from the dealer, and now my car's side panels are paying for it.. Ordered from grubbs (www.infinitiwholesaleparts.com) a week ago or so.. Should be here early this upcoming week.

Re: Sunroof

park in the back of the parking lot and you wont have to worry about door dings. It's a good exercise as well cause you have to walk farther. haha, But all in all I love my sunroof, Couldnt be happier with it.

Re: Sunroof

The only negative I can think of with the sunroof is that it takes some rigidity away from the unibody.
But I have to say that with the premium package I'm very happy with it. I love having the heated seats on and driving with the climate control kickin' and the sunroof open on those crystal clear 20 degree winter nights. Sweet!

Re: Sunroof

I'd suggest you get the sunroof. I had it open today, since we are experiencing a severe heat wave here in NJ - about 35 degrees . Can't wait until the spring.
