Headlamp Removal for Projectors???
Hey,
So I have been doing some serious consideration about a projector retrofit for my G35C, because I do a lot of night time driving and our reflector Xenons suck. In order to do it, I have to remove my headlamps and send them in to the company. Does anybody know how to remove the headlamps??? If you do, please break it down for me nice and easy...it was hard for me to install my cargo net. =P

Re: Headlamp Removal for Projectors???
First you need to remove the front bumper. I think there are 6 clips along the top, two screws going upward where the bumper meets the fender, and about 12 10mm bolts along the bottom. Then there are 4 10mm bolts holding the headlights in. One on the top and three around the bottom of the headlight. Then unplug the headlight, the connector is on the bottom of the headlight. This whole process is pretty easy, the hardest part is the two screws going into the fender. Either remove the fender liners or push them out of the way.

If you are lookin for pointers maybe you could PM E_K. He did what appears to be a great job using X5 projectors. I think would have tried for a smaller lense for the projector. This project is something I've also wanted to tackle but after E_K said it took him approx 20 hours I hesitated. Try checking the link below for pix and more info. Peace.

Re: Headlamp Removal for Projectors???
Thanks for the info, guys. The company is located in the Queens Flushing area, which isn't too far from me. I am thinking about just dropping the car off next time I go on vacation (around April) and letting them deal with the whole thing, and just come back to my car all ready with the new projectors. If I do go ahead with it, the company is also going to install the OEM Lexus yellow caps over the fog lights to make my fog lights super duper yellow like Lexus fog lights. I'm just not sure if it's worth the loot ($700 for the whole thing).

Make sure that they know how to take the bumper off. I've learned the hard way that outside places don't always know the proper way to take off a bumper. They'll use brute force if they can't figure out what screw is left. Just my experience.
What kind of projectors are you going with? The G35 headlamp has a few considerations such as available space in the low beam area, so that you can't just pop any projector in there.
$700 is a lot, but if you are paying someone to do it, I guess it's an ok price.

Thanks for the advice, E_K. They are going to use Valeo projectors as they are the most compact projectors and should have no problem fitting into the G35's headlamps. I really wanna do this but I am just afraid of how the car will look after the conversion.

Re: Headlamp Removal for Projectors???
What about the 350z projectors or the S2000? Those are pretty smallish. I feel the same way that if the projector is too large it will ruin the look of the housing. Wouldn't the 350z projectors maybe work better becuase they are both Nissan? Just an idea....

Re: Headlamp Removal for Projectors???
350z projector will not work. The beam is created with the combination of a small projector AND the reflector. You would have to get both components in. And even then, your cutoff line won't be as razor sharp as a true projector unit. I heard it's about as good as an E-code reflector.
S2000 is good, but it's hard to find. And the pre2004 S2000 units were integrated into the headlight frame.
A larger projector in general is brighter. E-codes give more foreground light with more prominent prism effect. You want the beam to clear the chrome bezel between the high and low beams. You don't want the projector to be so long that you can't close the bulb cap at the end. You don't want the projector to hit the outer headlight cover. It's not as easy as it sounds. Most people like 90mm Hellas, A6, or S2000 projector. The Q45 is nice, but it's rare, and I don't think it will physically fit. I would opt for the biggest projector that can physically fit. If you want a tiny projector, I'm not sure why one would go through that amount of trouble for a beam that might be weaker than stock. There's a whole world out there when it comes to projector retrofitting. But the end result is worth it.
