another reason why i can not trust dealer's

another reason why i can not trust dealership's service departments. i bring my coupe to Infiniti for the first free service and i decided while it is there to have the tires balanced, well to my suprise, they rotated my tires. yes they rotated my unidirectional tires so i now have a hundred miles on my tires backwards. i am very pissed and disapointed, it is a good thing i am **** about my car and cleaned it today to notice that the tires were in the wrong direction, i could have gotten tread seperation doing 80mph and that would really of sucked for me and everyone else around me on the turnpike. my question is how the hell they can have mechanics that are so called certified and put my tires on in the wrong direction. i would not be so pissed off it was a ford dealer, but come on i figured infiniti would have a better class of mechanics than that. the best part is that the balance cost me $49, and they didn't even balance all the tires, they only did one cause only one tire had new stick on weights on it, talk a bout a half *** job. when i was in automechanics class in highschool we used to take all the old weights off then balance the them, now i have to loose 3 hours of work tomorrow to bring my car back so they can fix their screw up!

OMG antrock that is serious, you should talk to the manager at your dealership, tell him your story, dont b1tch at him, just speak truly like you did here, plead your case, and im sure he will give you some sort of 'your next service is free' deal or something! Im sure they have tire guys that arent mechanics. Just like how a tire-shop would.
good luck.

It's hard to trust anyone doing work on your car now days.

Those tire shops are horrible too, they use the air gun to put back on lugs. I've had so many stripped lugs and broken bolts from them doing this. I hate to have to stand over their shoulder everytime I get tires replaced. I usually just take the wheels off now and bring them in.

Some tire tech at Firestone cross-threaded 2 lug nuts with an air wrench on a previous car of mine. I had to point out to them that I had the oil changed and the tires rotated there every 3-4000 miles, and they were the only ones that had touched the lug nuts on that car for a year. I didn't have to repeat myself or get upset, though.. they switched gears and replaced the studs right away. Even bothered to use a hand wrench to put the lug nuts on that time. I don't want to be taking my Infiniti to them, though. Not sure about the dealer, either. It's time to start looking for a really good independent mechanic.

Re: another reason why i can not trust dealer's

i brought my car in early this morning and plead my case. i did not go off on him and run around telling everyone their service sucks, i mentioned to him that i was very disapointed in their service department, how they only balanced one tire and put minor scratches on the wheels where the lug nuts are, and i also pled my case on the tires being on backwards. here is what they did for me, he offered to keep my car for a week and he would send my rims out to get refinished. i said no(i can not picture my coupe sitting on 4 jack stands for a week) that would not be necessary just be more careful this time. they refunded my credit card back the $53, and their shop foreman rebalanced all my tires and put them on in the right direction. i told them that i was concerned with the tires getting screwed up for being on backwards and that i wanted them replaced if michelin said they can be damaged for being on backwards, well infiniti got lucky, i call michelin and they said they are unidirectional for better traction on wet streets and high performance traction, and that it wouldn't tear them up as long as they weren't backward for a 10k miles. so all in all it was just an inconveniance for me to bring my car in and lose 2 hours of work. i may have also sold a coupe while i was waiting for my car, this guy that was dropping of his QX4 asked me about my coupe, but he was thinking about buying a new vette, i told him that he would be getting more car for the money if he gets the coupe, he is looking to order one now.

If I remember right you bought your coupe from Scott Infinti, is that correct. How many miles do you have on it? I got my G35C at Scott and also want to make sure the same thing doesnt happen to me. Im not far away from my first service. Thanks for keeping eveyone informed.

Re: another reason why i can not trust dealer's

The absolute worst part of owning any car is getting it serviced. I have many stories of service problems and have just come to expect that if I bring my car in for service, it will have a new, different problem when I get it back; bar none...every time.

This is why I always buy a service manual when I buy a new car and try to use it instead of bringing my car into a dealer. Which, by the way, costs over $250 for the g35c.

When I bring my car to any dealer for service, I never let them do "a 15K mile service". I make them detail each item they will perform and tell them OK or NO on each item. That way you won't get so many screw-ups with unneeded or unwanted work. Also you should ask for a credit on the total service price for any deleted item.

AntRock,

Sorry to hear that you had trouble with your service, but glad to hear that you got everything worked out to your satisfaction. I noticed that you were concerned about the lost time from work having to shuffle the car back and forth. I had a couple of little issues with my car when I took delivery (hairline scratch on the roof & bubble in the rear tint), the first time I took it in to get fixed off the punch list they didn't do a good job, but I couldn't tell until the next day b/c it was dark when I picked it up. So I basically did what you did, talk to them about what my concern was and tell them I was disappointed and expected better service. The difference is that I did it over the phone with the service manager and used a little persuasion to have them to come to my office pick up the car and drop off a loaner, which they did. I only lost 5 min. to trade keys in the parking lot! So, if you or anyone else has an issue with the quality of service, don't think that this pick up and delivery is out of the question.

Here in Houston, at least, the service writers and manager are very concerned about your opinion of their work b/c the Dealer and Infiniti send surveys or call every time I get anything done to ensure that I am happy!
