hey one night when i started up my G and drove off, my "passenger airbag off" light turned on and wouldnt turn off. i didnt touch anything. jus did what i usually do starting up the car and leaving. but when i turned it off and chilled where i chilled, then went back to go drive home, the light wasnt on anymore. is there something i should know about why this happened or is this another one of those usual things the G does? thanks

If there isn't a passenger present or someone under 30lbs (+/-), the passenger airbag light will turn on. That way if you were to get into an accident, the airbags won't deploy.

Depends which year G you have. My 06 airbag light stays off even with no one in passngr seat, but when I put my briefcase with laptop on the passngr seat, the airbag light illuninates. The pressure sensors in the seat thinks its a kid and deactivates the passngr airbag and turns light on.

At start-up its illuminated only for about 5-7 sec (system check) then turns off. If yours is turning on or saying on with nothing in your passngr seat (06-07 models) after system check, there's a problem with system.

Confusing, but hope that helped.

I just took my g to the dealership today because my passenger light stays off if someone is sitting in the seat or not.they say that it's good *** long as it come on when start the vehicle.which makes no sense that means it,then whats the point of it.they just **** me off and just left.

^ My gf has a tendency to slouch forward a little, resulting in the passenger airbag being deactivated.

Didn't make sense to me either in the beginning. But think of it like this...
Adult sitting in seat = enough weight = no light = airbag will deploy
Kid sitting in seat = not enough weight = light on = won't deploy
No one in seat = no weight = light off = won't deploy = no need to deploy

The last one yes makes no sense, but in 06 they made it that way b/c guess the light being on all the time in that situation was distracting the driver so I was told by my Dealer
No worse imo than the REV light on 6mt's thats on all the time, of which I don't even notice unless I'm going to use it.

I don't like that feature b/c I'm totally relying on the system to function correctly and doesn't tell me when its off or on or who knows what its thinking.
Its still a little nerve racking to me, but least it tells its off when an underweight passenger (like my kid) is riding in that seat.
And if its on when an adut is in that seat, its a system failure and visit to the Dealer needed.
