Burning smell after driving?!

I just noticed a burning smell after driving. It happens sometimes and I was wondering if it could possible be just that my tires are out of traction or is the clutch burning. Can either of the two occur?

If the clutch is burning, it would usually be a nasty burning smell. Could you have possibly ran over a plastic bag and its stuck on yr exhaust.

I'll check tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure that's not it. Could my tires have something to do with it? Also, if it is the clutch how can you stop it from burning?

I've searched on google and my problem might be that I'm letting the clutch slip really slow thus burning the clutch. How do I go about not burning the clutch. It's when I shift from N to 1st from a stop light or from starting the car. I need to learn how to shift more smoothly. Any suggestions?

its the clutch pedal binding, I had my clutch replaced after 20,000 miles it would burn when I got on it (I know how to drive a clutch,20 + years) i paid 2300.00 to have my clutch repaired, broke in the new clutch slowly then got on it one day and the clutch pedal stuck and I had to kick it up with my foot, burnt the clutch, finally infinti admits it a faulty clutch pedal. I have a 2004 6MT. it is now being lemon lawed due to throttle body going out 3 times in 2 months, once going 70 mph on the highway dropped the speed to 25mph ( infinti says it drops the rpms so the engine doesnt get ruined, what about my life!! 2nd and 3rd times pulling out in traffic almost got rear ended, this is on top of the transmission being replaced (3rd gear), tire rods, gas tank not filling up (twice) seat ripping on the plastic (3 times replaced), wheel bearings, differential clicking, sunroof, and the final straw that broke my back the brakes vibrating/pulsating on angles and tight turns, even with VDC off, they still havent figured that one out, oh well enough of my ranting, I'll have $42.000+ large back to place on a 2008 BMW M3( the G37 is sooo Uggly ), They dont want to go to jury trial and have these safety issues known, and have the lawsuit set precedent for everyone else with these serious saftey issues.

Hope this helps,
Billy

When mine was new...I got this smell from engine compartment and from front wheels.
Went away after about a month. It did smell like clutch and brake pads. Figured it was break-in period. Hasn't smelled since.

Is that was it is? A break-in smell? It does make sense seeing how I got a new clutch couple of days ago. Is there such a thing as a breaking in smell though?

I guess so in a sense
That was my experience and as others have said after driving hard, the smell.
But I don't get that clutch smell anymore after driving hard, only when it was new and after driving somewhat hard.
Possible with mine, maybe my pressure plate still had some light oil on it from factory to prevent rusting and clutch was slipping under hard acceleration.

Been driving clutch for 30+ years and never experienced this before. My first Nissan product; thought it was a Nissan/Infiniti thing.

My clutch used to chatter badly with take-offs in 1st when new too. Thought maybe plate was glazed from previous test drives before I bought it, or again maybe junk on pressure plate from factory. No chatter or smell after about 1500 miles and was about to take to Dealer for these conditions, so I concluded it was a break-in period when smell and chatter stopped. Everything been good since and with 22k on the odo to date.

Picked up a pre-owned '04 5AT 3 weeks ago. Smell of burning oil on the way home from the dealer...chalked it up to oil change. Smell continues 3 weeks later when I drive it hard.
Dealer said that recent rust proofing chemical was burning off..problem is, rustproofing was done 3 years ago!
And, you guys are talking about clutch problems, mine's a 5AT.
Any suggestions as to what it could be or where to start investigating?
