It's all in the preference not need. My Jeep liberty 4at had a hand brake, so why not the G??? It's definately more sport oriented. That is why we all wonder why they choose to go this route. I personally feel it was for the cup holders.

I know this isn't right, but sometimes I like to slide around corners. It was pretty big when I was in Japan and this is my only vehicle. The wife is learning how to drive, so I didn't want her wrecking a brand new tranny/clutch. If you know what I mean. I've head several manual tranny cars and you could theoretically have a foot brake. The foot brake is high enough from the floor that it would be hard to confuse it with the clutch.

It can be better than the handbrake! A friend of mine was saying that you can remove the device that makes it lock as you are pushing it down. In theory it would then work like a handbrake just, you operate it with your foot, as in if you want to lock up the rear, just slam the pedal down with you foot and then just let up, much like you pull up and push down to engage and release the traditional hand brake. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, as this is 2nd hand info, I haven't actually tried it myself!
