New Coupe - RPM's seem high

New Coupe - RPM's seem high
I just traded in a 2003 G35 sedan for a 2004 Coupe. On the highway a few times I have approached 100mph, and it sounds like the engine is working a little higher in the RPM range. I have no hard data on this just a feeling. I was wondering if anyone has notice or will take the time to notice at what RPM their coupe is running in the 90 to 100 mph range. I just wanted to make sure I'm not experiencing any defect in my new car. Thanks.

Are you sure you just aren't noticing more engine noise due to the coupe dual exhaust? I also traded in a G sedan for the coupe, and I noticed the same thing. In my case, though, it was just getting used to the more agressive exhaust tone.

I'm pretty sure when I've got cruise control maxd at 90mph it's around 3400.

Re: New Coupe - RPM's seem high
I can tell you that my A/T Sedan was about 2100 rpm, and my A/T Coupe is about 2300 rpm at 60 mph.
I'm not sure what the rear axle ratios are in the 2 rides but I believe the Sedan has about a 3.3/1, and the Coupe has a 3.4/1 which will account for the slightly higher rpm's in the Coupe.
The 6m/t rides have different transmission ratios too resulting in different rpm's in top gear between the 2 rides.

Re: New Coupe - RPM's seem high
Mr. Elusive, I got a chuckle from your response. I do expect my RPM's to be high at 100. My concern was really not that my RPM's were that high, but that it seemed to be different from my experience with my sedan. Both are automatic. I really think after reading all of the posts, that the main reason is a slightly different ratio in the two, and then the extra horse power and exhaust system. I think the two just have a different tone. My experience was not that I knew any difference existed in the RPM's of both, but that it just sounded like it was reving higher.

The RPMs are even higher at 140 mph, about 5200 in 6th gear in 6MT in my experience.
