30k service $900 @ dealer???

Unfortunately, my concern about fluid changes is the possibility of causing more harm than good due to the incompetence of the techs. I would chance the coolant flush, but would be concerned leaving the trans and brake fluid change to those idiots. Secondly, I'm not sure it's necessary to do the trans change at 30,000 miles unless absolutely necessary.

That's because most the "services" included in the $900 are rubbish that any person who knows where the hood release, has thumbs, and can use a flash light can do him/herself. If some people actually took the time to crack open their owner's manual (it's that book that comes with the car for free), they would find the instructions along with pictures on how to do most of this stuff. When I pay good money, I want to have something to show for it. It's okay to get your hands a little dirty every now and then. That's why soap was invented.

The biggest issue is that $900 is probably not what Infiniti recommends but what the dealer is doing for additional profit. Car and Driver has written many articles about this. They say to insist upon the scheduled maintenance that is required by Infiniti. Take the book with you and tell them exactly what you want and nothing more.

would you spend $900 to service a nissan? a z, or a 3.5 se altima, or a maxima? then dont spend it on your g. these cars all share similar components, and you are basically paying more to service an "infiniti". the G is not some f ucking supercar that needs all this special s hit done to it, its just a car. Period.

Do as many things yourself that you are comfortable with. Find a good independent mechanic to take care of the rest.
Changing out fluids every 2 years/24K is good enough. Just turkey-baster the PS steering fluid out of the reservoir and add fresh fluid. Flushing out the system buys you little for what you pay for it. It's a great money maker!
Cooling, trans fluid and brake fluid are critical. Although jury is still out whether a trans flush is really needed. Maybe at 60K+ .. but regular changes s/b enough, same for the differential.
Do that along with regular oil and filter changes should do it.
Check wheel alignment every 6-12K. Rebalance if tires look like they need it or you can feel vibration. Check brake pads every few months. Change out air filter as recommended for the type you have, and replace the cabin filter every couple of years.
Wiper blades when they don't wipe well, tire pressures every few weeks, etc.
To pay $700-900 ONE service along with the free donuts and coffee, is highway robbery IMO!
Save your receipts for all parts and work performed!!!

Diff and tranny oil are inspect every 15k/1 yr; replace if needed. 30k/2 yrs is probably a better rule of thumb, as you've stated.

I was under the impression it was $500 so I was going to go ahead and get it done @ the dealership but if it's $600+ like you guys say it is, my car will be going to my friend's mech. shop whenever I hit 60k instead.
There's no way to have it done @ a mechanic shop and then show the receipts to the dealer so they can log it in their computer?
