I've been reading about the oil consumption problem of of our engine so I went to check my oil level. It's been 3000mi since my last oil change and the level is between L and H. How do you tell if it's 1qt, 2qt low etc?

 

The level is exactly halfway between L & H.

 

1 qt. is the difference between the H and L mark. If you started with a full H and now you're at half, you're 1/2 qt. low. When I do my oil changes, 5 qts. does not put it the H mark, but about 1/8" to 1/4" from the H mark. I'd say you're fine.
