Coupe burning Oil
Re: Coupe burning Oil
Mellowkyle,
No hard feelings here. I pretty much agreed w/ everything you said about break-in. I just hope I'm right because I followed break-in like it was a religion... Amen

Re: Coupe burning Oil
Majority of the owners did. Read the forums for the vettes and fbodys. No engine is designed to use synthetic. Period. The synthetic oil just meets the factory recommendations, and can be used at any time. That is the only reason its in the engine from teh factory. It's a performance vehicle, give it performance oil.

Okay, whatever... I'm not gonna argue with you. Try putting synthetic oil in a VQ engine from day one and let me know what happens, okay?
BTW, General Motors would be beyond retarded to keep using synthetic oil as the fill oil if the majority of owners were experiencing those problems. In other words, don't think that the majority of owners on a message board represent the majority of all owners. Everybody knows that MOST of the time, the most vocal people are the people complaining about problems. People without problems don't have anything to complain about.

Seadweller,
Long day today, just getting to my email and stuff. The reason I sked about your intake is the PCV connection on the the intake pipe. It's the hose that ends up connected at the bottom of the Z tube. If your PCV valve isn't working properly, pressure from the crankcase can pump oil into the intake and through the engine. If you remove this hose, you can check for oil residue. Also make sure the hose isn't pinched anywhere. I have the same setup on my G, tube and pop charger. I would ask the dealer to perform a leakdown test, this is the only way short of a teardown to verify that you oil consumption isn't due to rings. I would also start to document the oil levels in you car. I would measure the oil on level ground and try to have the engine at the same tempature, like cold (before you start it) Keep a log with level and mileage. This way you can prove to the dealer that your car is in fact burning oil. Remember, don't hesitate to Call Infiniti directly if the dealer is hesitant. In my opinion, if the dealer is hesitant, go to another dealer. Any dealer that's willing to fight you on warranty work (that they will get paid for by Infiniti) will never put their hands on my ride.
Goodluck,
