Ya, you're right...there's no way the 2007 sedan with its 306hp engine can be slower than my lighter 298hp 2005 6MT coupe with extensive intake and exhaust modifications....

I've raced, and pulled on 07 sedans.

I won't even mention the handling differences between the cars...no comparison between the two. The sedan would not take corners like my coupe. I also felt much more body roll during cornering.

Valve gear: chain-driven double overhead cams, 4 valves per cylinder, hydraulic lifters, variable intake- and exhaust-valve timing

Hahaha I laugh at people like you. Extensive intake and exhaust mods? LOL . Intakes dont ADD power, as a matter of fact, unless its a Z-tube, you LOSE power homeboy. Exhaust? They add what.... 15Whp? By the way, your 298 is under old SAE Standards. The 306 of the new sedan is under the NEW standards. If you havent heard, almost ALL cars lost horsepower under the new standards. I dont care what you have to say, the new Sedans are quick a.ss cars and they would stomp on your coupe. I have an 06 Coupe myself and I know for a fact the Sedan would rape my car. The VQ35HR is simply a better motor. Stop defending your coupe like its your wife kid.

Probably true, certainly stock for stock.

I'll let you guys know the #'s when I take it to the track...I'm just telling you what I have experienced with other 07 sedans. Perhaps the loaner I drove wasn't up to snuff. (The tranny seemed off too)

The automatic sedan takes off like a scared rabbit, its very hard to catch up to until around 90 MPH, around then the 6mt would usually catch and pass it.
The manual looses out to the automatic in the low end gearing but makes up for it on the top end, unfortunately the race is usually done before that point.

So what are the details in this "new" standard? Do you have any links to back up your claims? The new version of the HR is still a 3.5L correct?? Don't see how it could have that much more HP/TQ than the older DE...

You seem to be an expert on mods for the VQ35. How can you explain reputable aftermarket companies like Motordyne and Stillen claiming HP gains with their products, backed up by dyno sheets?

The reason the 07 feels faster is simple...lower gearing.

The 2006 350Z with the rev-up VQ gets ~13.7 at 103mph and that is pretty much the fastest times on 350Z.com. The new 2007 350Z with the VQHR gets ~13.2 at 106mph as the fastest times for the 350Z...both cars have the exact same gearing with the 6-speed tranny. Not only does the VQHR have a much better torque curve, it redlines at 7500rpm. I've driven both cars and the VQHR is simply a much much better engine.

...Need to see the numbers by a modded 05/06 350z for a comparison. Remember, I said the my 05 felt quicker than the 07 sedan (most likely from the mods...and yes $2,500 in mods is extensive).

I'm not saying that the HR is a crappy engine, they definitely made improvements to the VQ design. I'm simply saying that it isn't THAT much better. And of course it will have higher HP with an increased redline!

dont know about you, but i had a chance to drive a automatic 07 sedan for a week and yes, it does "feel" faster. it does take off faster then my 06 coupe 6mt. maybe because its lighter? and the new engine puts our VQ to shame. Our VQ is a torqueless wonder.

And the guys are correct about intake and exaust. those mods don't do shlt. especially the warm air intake.

It does increase "flow" but all that does w/o a tune is let ur car run lean.

I think there a vid of the 07 sedan beating a G37.
