Just noticed that on SOME radio stations, the radio shows the name of the band and song on the display, which is pretty cool. Anyone else notice this on their stereos?

Yeah...it's part of the 'RDS' feature of our sound system. Also, it is dependent on each radio station's capability to transmit the info.

At first, only 1 or 2 radio stations in my area used the RDS feature. Now I'm starting to notice that almost all of them use it now.

 

I assume this is only part of the Bose head unit?

 

The stations are getting ready for the new HD radio format. I like it!

Actually when I first noticed this I though, "whoa sweet know I know the song and station name". Then a few days ago I noticed I was also getting advertisements and I thought, "Whoa not sweet. How can I dissable this feature".

 

I agree, it’s great knowing the band and song, but when we were in SoCal we had ads too. It annoyed me enough to turn the station. I don’t like my property being used as a billboard.

No, my wife's 2002 Pontiac Bonnevile SE has that feature on the base line am/fm cd radio.

When the band and song show up, is that automatic, or do you have to push a button? Mine I get the name of the radio station, but it doesnt show the name of the band or song. How do you do that?

As far as I know, it’s automatic. I think it’s up to the radio station what info they want to broadcast.

Not all stations have that ability I guess. Out of all my presets only one station does it. Make sure it says "RDS" somewhere on the display...hope this helps
