DED is right...it's certain pumps at certain gas stations...only happened to me a handful of times...I avoid the stations that don't work...

Re: Anyone had this problem with fuel tank?

I called two dealers. They both had never heard of it before and said it would be a waste bringing it over. One here in Indiana never called me back (crappy service from such a higher end company). The third dealer said they have already done a handful of coupes with this problem and say its definitely worth looking at. So, I have an app on Wend to go in.

If you are sure absolutely sure you have a full tank (by whatever method) and your guage still read below the F line (like 1 or 2 ticks down), then you have the same problem I and poolshark had.

When I brought it to the dealer last week (Infiniti of Mission Viejo), they seem to IMMEDIATELY know the issue without even bothering for me to verify it for them. The fix included the same parts, sender unit, o-ring, and pump c. whatever that is. And I filled up today and the guage reads past the F line again.

Ok, I called my dealer and the explanation they gave me for the half-full problem was the same tpware gave above - that the tank is a saddle-tank setup and sometimes there's no venting to the other side. Funny thing is, they said they read that on an internet message board.

So I guess the only "solution" is to pump slower or avoid inclines.

Re: Anyone had this problem with fuel tank?

Seems folks here are confusing everyone with TWO separate problems.

#1: The original problem deals with the tank pressure & design. This was a well know problem a couple years back with Z owners, when the 350Z first came out. Tons of folks complaining about trying to fill the tank up. Gas pumps shuts off anywhere from 5 gallons in, to almost full, and is a PITA to fill up the rrest of the way. There were many suggestions to help eliminate the problem, including:

1. Pump fuel slow
2. No vehicle tilt while pumping (altough all the gas-pumps I've ever filled up at have been level, but I do live in Florida)
3. Pull fuel pump nozzle out a little bit
4. Let the tank vent
5. Start the car, then shut off and try again (BEWARE OF STATIC CHARGE WITH THIS ONE)

I've really only had the problem once myself. Got about 1/2 full, and had to patiently finagle (<-sp??) the other half in. Took a little time, but oh well

#2: Not too sure about the failing fuel level guage. I did have a problem getting the guage to read completely full twice in a row once, but on the third time, I just kept putting more fuel in (fully expecting it to come splashing out at any moment), and finally the needle went all the way to the "F". I'm definalty keeping an eye on it though.

G35TR,

You're correct. It apears there may be two issues. When my tank is full, my gage shows full. Don't have that issue.

I log every gallon that goes in the tank, I know how much should go in. Sometimes, you just might find, you can't always get in what you want.

Re: Anyone had this problem with fuel tank?

Yep, I'm actually having both issues (just my luck). Even in the pumps where it allows me to fill up more than halfway, it's still a bit short of F. Not as concerned about that one, but it's still annoying.

Re: Anyone had this problem with fuel tank?

I have no problem with the accuracy of the gas guage, but have had a real problem with the gas pump repeatedly shutting off. Have been in to the dealership twice with this problem. They instructed me to bring in the G35c when my guage was near empty, and they would fill up the tank. They have done this twice, and found no problem in filling the tank. BTW, they did not charge me for the two fillups, but in my opinion, the problem has not been solved. It was their recommendation that I never let the tank get to less than one quarter of a tank filled. In my opinion, this is an unreasonable solution to the problem. They knew of no TSB on the issue.
