No airbag.. should I get a harness for safety?

Take the money you would spend on harnesses and buy a used airbag. Ive seen them go for 600. That would be your best bet. A roll cage, plus harnesses, plus padding, plus a high ife insurance policy equals mucho $$$$.

His problem is he swapped to an aftermarket steering wheel, not that he doesn't have the airbag on the stock wheel

You do not want a harness unless you have a full roll bar / cage... and wear a helmet with the neck brace / head strap that holds your head back against the seat instead of going forward...

The harness will keep you sitting straight up, wont let your upper body move, but your head will go forward...

the harness will also keep you sitting straight up in the even you do flip, your body will not lean to the side (like it will with a 3 point) and your head will be crushed in by the roof top / ground...

Best thing to do is to sit further back from the wheel...
