Advicement for first car
Advicement for first car
Hello everybody in this forum,
As my topic says already i am looking for a first car. I am deciding between a g35 2004 coupe or a honda civic 2007 coupe. I'm torn apart whether I should flourish my youthness and buy a "G" for excitement and performance. I believe i would enjoy the G definitely more. As I come to a realization in researching more about the car itself I believe Mpg is a keyfactor for me which will excell in the civic. On the other hand i could take good care of the G and use it for atleast another 8 years? Styling and preference wins the G no doubt.
Thank you for looking into my post
I would appreciate replies.
Have a nice day.
Ken

This is my totally (un)...biased decision.. GET THE G!!
. Got a 04 Gc a couple months ago loving every minute of it. Although it's about 50 bux every 7-10 days depending how much u drive.. i put a little over 1k a month on the G.. It's my only car so i basically drive it everywhere. Alot of people on the forum have a beater on the side for work commutes etc etc. But the car is solid tho, nothin mechanically wrong unless u get have ****ty *** luck and get a an 05+ RevUp Engine with oil consumption problem, but their usually covered by the warranty.

PsychOps, the Civic will easily last as long as the G, I see Civics from the '90s on the road all the time, and maintenance on the G might be slightly more over time, but if you're going to buy performance tires for either car, there won't be that much difference, except for gasoline.
I'd say it comes down to 3 very simple questions:
1. Do you want RWD or WWD (that's Rear or Wrong Wheel Drive)?
2. Assuming the price of the cars is the same, can you afford the extra gas the G will want? I'm averaging 20mpg in the G, I'm sure the Civic would get close to 30, so if the Civic costs $30 per week to fill up, the G will cost $45 per week (which is about what I'm spending BTW).
3. Do you require a factory warranty? An '04 G will most likely be out of warranty by now or very soon, although if you're buying from a dealer you may be able to purchase an extended warranty.
Good luck.

The G is a great car and you'll have fun with it if you get it.
four reasons the G might get a bit expensive though:
1.) Gas mileage
2.) maintenance
3.) snow tires if you live in the north east
4.) Insurance depending where you live
Also you said you want to keep the car for eight years, its already four years old so you might want to take that into consideration to possible get a newer car.
They're both great cars though, simple fact though, the G is in a whole different class.
Good luck with your decision.

i got a G as my first car (im 16) and its expensive...
tires, gas, insurance, and maintenance (if you dont have warranty but you can DIY alot of stuff to save money)
if you can afford it get the G and dont look back but if you cant get the civic

I felt inclined to respond to this since I just traded an '06 Civic Si for an '04 G coupe with 20k miles on it two days ago.
The Si (galaxy gray color, with Injen SRI) was the third gen Si that I've owned and hands down, the best to date. It's a tremendous car and a blast to drive....once you get to VTEC, and therein, as they say, lies the rub.
To get total enjoyment out of the Si you have to drive it in the upper RPM ranges. Once you get to around 5k the car really comes alive...once you get to VTEC (around 6k) the car is a blast. Below those rpm ranges, however, the car is, well....a bit of a slug. You really have to "work" to get the Si up to speed. Perhaps it's because I've always been a "low-end" junkie ('92 Sentra SE-R, '91 MR-2).
The G is obviously in an entirely different class than the Si. My suggestion for a first car would be the Civic. If you can, go with the Si...it can be a "fuel efficient" slug when you want it to be, and you can turn it loose when you want to as well. Assuming you are a young, first-time car owner, you might get yourself into trouble jumping into a G right away...I know I would have.
BTW...here is my "new" G...

- How much total do you spend a year(General keep-up)
- Insurance, location, company
I would greatly appreciate that. Take it easy guys.
To the OP I would say look at your budget, that should be your deceiding factor. Not what is cooler, faster, etc. Cars are expensive TOYS!
Kyle that is one very clean looking G! I like. Just need some tint and a rear spoiler(My personal preference). Congrats on the purchase man.
