Would you buy or walk away fast?

I was looking for some opinions. I have my own, but wondering what others might say.

Here is the situiation. The dealer was asking $25k for a 15k mi 05 6mt coupe Serengeti sand ext/black int. It has tinted windows, blacked out headlights and a lip spoiler. Everything was going good until the salesman told me- "the finance manager hit a pothole and we had to replace the front driver side rim, upper and lower control arms and part of the subframe and replace front bumper ". He acted like it was no big deal, I drove the car and it tracked fine and drove normal. Just wondering what you guys would do? What you would offer.

Sounds good to me as long as they fixed everything.. Plus you've got warranty on your side if anything else happens...

Also, since the salesman told you that you can use that against them while negotiating. Offer 21K with tax and everything included out the door.

I'd say continue to pursue it because (1) it will be under warranty for a long time to come, (2) their disclosure of this accident is a huge bargaining chip in your favor and (3) if it's what your looking for you can't put a price on a great deal.

If it's not the color combo you want, wait for one that you do want. If it is, you basically have to figure out what you're willing to pay to have potential problems with your car in the future. Also, if that accident isn't on the carfax, the dealer could be in some serious legal sh*t - make sure it is (even though it hurts the resale).

If it's been reported to insurance, and therefore the DMV, I think it should be on Carfax.

Don't take my advice as the end all be all, it may be that if they are disclosing the information it is legal. However, if anyone, particularly a dealer, tries to prevent a severe accident of a vehicle from being reported to insurance and/or the DMV, they could face legal repercussions. (I think - others on this site would have much more knowledge about this).

Either way, I'd do a little more research before getting into this car.

Common sense would suggest accidents don't always show up on Carfax even if they're reported - it's not perfect. An accident should be on Carfax, but even if it was reported that doesn't mean it will be.

It was just a pot hole though.. Nothing that big like getting rear ended or something.. I don't think carfax would report that.

Must have been one hell of a pothole... Assuming the highest insurance deductible I know of ($1000), that's more than $1000 of work - even at dealer cost.

Hell, the rims alone are more than $1000 apiece at dealer prices

It looks like there are many people who are saying buy, but if it is modified i would not buy a car with mods on there since they tend to be ran harder.

This is just an opinion...

as a person in the biy shop biz you dont ruin the subframe part by going over a pole, i say stay away, the car could have frame damage which can never be fixed right, geta clen car there are millions of them out there.

I would stay away for sure that is not that great of a price to take a risk, And how do you ruin the subframe from a pot hole must have hit a pot cliff, to bend, ruin all that stuff.
