3rd gear scratches

3rd gear scratches

my 3rd gear scratches only when i shift fast but when i go slow it goes in with no trouble i'm not sure what this is if u guys could please help its an '03 performance model w/ 16,000 miles at first i was thinking synchros but if it were no matter what i do it would scratch so i dont know HELP!!!!!DOMO

do u mean grind?.. make sure u have the clutch in all the way! ..

you are forcing the collar to bite even though the synchro has not brought up the speed of the layshaft to match the that gear's required output shaft speed.

this means you are trying too hard to shift fast or your 3rd gear synchro is shot.

....unless of course you are not pushing the clutch all the way to the floor or you have modified the clutch pedal travel incorrectly. In that case the synchro will be unable to do it's job and you will hear your "scratch/grind"

solution.. clutch all the way down. if your clutch is unmodified and it still grinds when you shift all the way down, slow down your shift a little or take it in for bad 3rd gear synchro.

hey i have that same problem on my 03 coupe. it's been happening a **** load now and it's only got 36k miles on it. tell me what you did to fix it? oh ya and does any1 know if it affects the rest of the synchros or the gear box?

if your syncro is bad your going to need a new tranny. For G's usually 3rd, and 5th gear are the one to pop up as bad syncros. IF your out of warranty and dont want to get a new tranny, i suggest just shift slow.

does anyone know if there's a recall on the tranny or the synchros for '03-'05s?

how do you only have 16,000 miles on your 03???

there is no recall only warranty work.
