Re: Racing For Time...

It depends. In NASCAR, when they're doing qualifying runs, they run with barely enough fuel for the few laps they're making, plus they tend to run stickier tires and such, since pitting isn't a concern, to get faster qualifying times.

Re: Racing For Time...

did you mean to put "sticker" tires? there is no such thing as stickier tires in nascar. the tires that they use for qualifying are the same compound that they use for the race......

Doc

You have been weighed.....You have been measured.....and you have been found WANTING!!!

Stickier/softer/whatever. It was several years ago when I read about it. Maybe they've changed the rules now. I believe the even have different compounds for the left and right tires to maximize cornering in one direction on an oval track.

Re: Racing For Time...

when i used to go w/ my friends to the track they would purposly leave a 1/4 tank of gas left because they say your track time will be a little better.
i must be a heavy filipina then cuz i'm only 5'2 and i weigh... well you don't need to know that. for as much as i eat it doesn't go below waist level, everything sticks to my chest! but i guess i'm blessed because i know alot of filipinas that don't have anything!

nope I actually have the seat at the same level as the passengers. I don't need to see the front of the car, I know the car pretty good now. You need to become one with your car, feel where the front, rear and sides are. After that all you need to do is look out the window and drive . Everyone has their own comfort level. remember "it's all about being one with your car".

about racing with the tank. You don't really want to race with an empty tank. long story and bad experience. I don't know if you noticed but it feels like the car doesn't perform up to par with close to empty. Is it because the fuel pressure is low on a close to empty tank?

Just put 5 bucks of 91 fuel and half a bottle of 117 octane boost. My friends had some mixture with paint thinner, but don't try that. Some even ran 5 bucks of gas + octane boost + carb fuel cleaner. I tried that once, the car did feel like it had more boost.

Then you can just go with 3 gallons of race fuel.
