Infiniti Sales

Infiniti Sales
March sales were released. Infiniti sold 2781 coupes vs. 2328 for the period lst year. A 20% increase. So obviously there is no need for a drastic change.

Re: Infiniti Sales
I think Infiniti should hold with the power increase until BMW releases the new 3-series. The 300 hp bump for the coupe will definitely be answered by BMW. BMW is talking about using superchargers in the next upgrade. Not sure Nissan can get alot more than 300 hp out of the VQ. If not...bad move, if so...this could be interesting.

Re: Infiniti Sales
no need for drastic change, but they always want change.
VW beetle still goes strong because of addition of convertable.
ford thunderbird died due to lack of upgrades, same thing with prowler.
pt cruiser just added turbo, but sales are lagging
04 6mtC, DG - possibly most babied G on the board.

Re: Infiniti Sales
The problem with the Thunderbird and PT Cruiser is that they are retro-designs. They may be popular for a little while due to nostalgia, but it's just a fad and won't have lasting appeal.
Infiniti should release a hardtop G35c convertible to increase their lineup. Not sure if you'll get any trunk space tho :P

Re: Infiniti Sales
I could be way off here, but I don't think BMW considers Inifiti to be it's core competition. They are luxury performance sedans for the most part. I like the Infinitis, but they are not in the same class as the BMW. I don't think Infiniti is one of the primary competitors they look to, to stay abreast with. Infiniti seems to fall into a broader market category of interest to them.
BMW isn't trying to compete in the $30 something sport compact class. You can get a bare bones 325 for low to mid $30's, but that's it. Put a couple of normal options on there, and you're pushing $40. The 330 is low $40's. The M3 is low $50s.
As for getting more ponies out of this engine, it would not be a difficult thing for Infiniti to do. Lower the compression by changing the pistons, and have more robust internals, then either turbo or SC and you could easily have ~400 reliable factory horses. Count on the car costing mid to high $40's though. Maybe at that point BMW would have to take notice.

Re: Infiniti Sales
The G is a 3-series wannabe. The G has no intentions of competing with the 5-series.
Anyways, the Thunderbird sucks, and so the New Beetle Convertible is a pure girl's car. It takes serious guts for a guy to drive a New Beetle Convertible and not be embarrassed.

Re: Infiniti Sales
Ref BMW not seeing G35 as competition...LOL. Why do you think they include G35 in comparative studies with BMW 3-series (heretofore category benchmark) in recent Car & Driver and Motortrend...with G35 rated #1? BMW 3- series is losing market share to G35. Competition is great...we all benefit!

Re: Infiniti Sales
BMW has done great marketing, even people here think they are "untouchable". Kind of like how some people think Bose is the greatest thing on earth. However, mizzoutiger is correct, if you go to BMW's website you can clearly see the G35 is considered one of their competitors.
