Shifting

Hey all, newbie here

I just purchased a 2006 G35 6MT for $23,500 with only 13k miles on it. I'm just waiting on it to be shipped to where I live.

Just wanted to know if anyone can help me with proper shifting, i've drivin MT a number of times but it's been about 4years since I last drove one. Any pointers for proper shifting would be appreciated ^^

And congratulations. I should be getting my G tomorrow.

I don't have an MT.. but I've driven a 6MT on a 350Z.. The clutch is really high and heavy. Getting out of 1st comfortably might take some getting used to.

I don't know what you've driven before, but if you've driven any domestic performance car clutches, then the G's clutch isn't bad at all. If you're accustomed to Japanese/German clutches, different story.

Either way, the previous poster is spot-on about the high engagement point. That is my single biggest gripe with my G.

In terms of getting back into driving a manual, the longest period I had not driving one was 3 1/2 months when I studied abroad, so I'm not sure I would qualify to give advice for a 4-year hiatus. Nonetheless, if you truly learned well before, simply taking it easy and observing and adjusting to your car's behavior at different combinations of RPM, gear and throttle position should have you running through the gears like butter in no time!
