Best auto carrier to transport across country...

Ok, looks like I am buying a car from California and needing it transported back here. Was going to make it a vacation type deal, but work stuff came up and it looks like I am not able to do that. We still saved a TON of cash on the car so transporting it isn't going to be that much more in addition...

So, never done a car before and only have experience with shipping motorcycles.

Here's some questions:

1) Who is a good choice to use?

2) What are the things bad about an open transport? They are about $400-$600 cheaper depending.

3) Things should I do an open transport I should consider. A vinyl front end mask, etc.

4) Anyone know where you can get that white sheeting they put on new cars on their roofs, hood, trunk, etc? Figured that may be a good thing to find...

Just looking at what anyone might have experience with. I've looked at Reliable, but they are like $1200. FedEx is the same. Both covered...

First off how many miles is this going? From? too?

I work for United Van Lines and can have it shipped open for $1,800 or enclosed for $2,200

FYI $1,200 is very low. I would not even turn the tires on my truck for $1,200 going coast to coast. That is Est 3,000 miles, with a full load the tractor gets Est 6-7 miles per gallon, and diesel is around $4.25 a gallon. If you do the math you will see what I am talking about.

I am not trying to rain on you parade! I just am trying to give you some valid input.

How many cars can your truck load with a "full load"? According to your figures, a 3000 mile trip costs you 1900 bux, so shipping 2 cars will get your money's worth in terms of gas

Where are you located Lizard. When is the transport supposed to happen. I just happen to know some guys sending their cars from L.A. to Atlanta soon. They might be willing to split some cost.

Whoa...

That's WELL more than any of the other enclosed guys. Thanks, though. The most expensive one was $1200 and they do exotic and collector machines. Reliable was $1000...

I don't think it would work. We're Ohio which isn't an issue to drive and meet along the way, but the car is in San Jose...

good luck...
That is a great price. No issues at all? Just concerned over an open trailer... Did you have it on the bottom or top row?

I got a quote for $850-$900 depending on carrier and where on the truck...

I used DeMoise Trk-ing to transport our G35 from CA to TX. Cost was about $1100 I think. Fully enclosed and rode with a bunch of various brand new Porsches. http://www.demoise.com/
