G Died on the freeway

Well, after about 5 days of having the Z-tube and JWT popcharger, I was driving on the freeway and was attempting to pass a semi when all of a sudden the car was limiting me to 80mph, then 70, 60, 50 and at this point I started pulling to the right shoulder. When safely on the right shoulder, I turned her off and attempted to restart with no luck. It would start for a couple of seconds but then just die.

I waited 2 HOURS for Infiniti Roadside service. Man they suck...I'm gonna bitch and complain about that. I ended up calling AAA instead. Tow truck came in 15 minutes. Next morning I took it to the dealership and they found out the JWT filter was restricting air flow. I got my filter from Performance Nissan in Duarte. I'm not sure if I should demand a refund or what??? Has anyone else had problems with the pop charger???

Wow, that's a first with the Pop Charger. I've had it on for 2,000 miles without any problems. I would first call JWT and make them aware of the problem. Then talk to Jason and have them see if the unit was defective in anyway at all.

That's pretty odd.

I find it hard to believe that the JWT filter would restrict airflow compared to stock. Perhaps a fouled/dirty MAF?

Well I talked to Jason and he was willing to swap out air filters. It's possible that some of the oil from the filter got on the sensor however it doesnt explain how the dealership was all of a sudden able to start the car once they took the pop charger off. They also said that when they were attempting to start the car with the pop charger on, you could here an attempted sucking noise. (As in the engine was having problems getting sufficient air flow)

At this point, I'm very hesitant about putting on the replacement that Jason will send to me.

Re: G Died on the freeway

I had the exact same problem. I believe the culprit was a kinked hose that connects to the ztube. This small tube is the only air source for the idled engine when the throttle body is closed, so if the hose is kinked, the car will stall. I rearranged the hose and reset my ecu using the gas pedal sequence. Problem solved. No more car dying. I hope that helps.

My ztube/JWT going on 4 months - no problems. Are you sure the vacuum hose of the ztube didn't fall off or was pinched? Also, was the MAS connection secure & not hitting chassis (shorting out) under speed?

Re: G Died on the freeway

Ya know, this sounds exactly like the problem I had (check my earlier post). I started from a dead stop at a light and accelerated when I noticed an immediate loss of power, my car coasted to a stop. Eventually I took out my MAF and that started the car, but the engine light was on - just used the default mapping from what I understand. The dealer had to clear a few error codes from the computer, afterwards though, it worked fine. I still don't know if my MAF is broken but it *seems* to be okay right now.

That hose that connects to the Z tube not being connected isnt the problem...because i had my hose disconnected for a while without knowing it....the car ran fine...no stall at all....had to zip tie that s**t...

Almost 5 months and 4000 miles on my z-tube and pop charger from Performance Nissan. No problems at all here.

Re: G Died on the freeway

It sounds like there was a problem with the MAF. Did they replace and/or clean the hotwire on the MAF sensor?
For the other people, when the car would start it probably ran really rich, idled somewhat poorly and wouldn't rev above something like 3000-3300rpms? If that's the case then the car was in "limp mode" because the ECU sensed the MAF problems.

The Pop chargers will make a "sucking" noise normally at idle. If the dealer isn't used to aftermarket intakes they may mistake this noise for a vacuum leak or something else wrong with the car, without knowing it's normal for that setup?

Re: G Died on the freeway

I don't think they cleaned the MAF sensor but they could have when I wasn't looking. All they told me was that they took off the pop charger and when I looked under the hood, all they did was disassemble the pop charger from the metal ring. Not the MAF from the ring which would create error codes.

I was also noticing a lof of oil from the filter. Before installing the filter, it was in a bag and there was a lot of blue oil on the bottom/sides. After taking it off and putting it in another bag, I noticed there is still quite a bit of oil rubbing off onto the bag. I'm wondering if they over lubed it.
