My bro in law was driving my sisters 330ci today and we decided to give it a quick run since there were no cars in sight. He gave the honks and actually took off on the 2nd honk...haha. He jumped on me about 1 car, but once i shifted to 2nd in mm "VDC off" i just pulled pretty hard on him. At least 2-3 cars. I shut off at about 80. I'm pretty proud of my auto g35 because those 330s are pretty quick.

My experience with 330s is that they keep up well up to about 60 then the G just destroys them. They are geared for power down low.

 

That's funny that this topic came up, because I had out the November 02 copy of Automobile that has the shootout between the G35 coupe and the 330Ci.

The bimmer had a 0.10 sec lead in 0-60, but the G35 was 0.30 sec faster from 0-100 mph.
The G smoked the B on the skidpad, but surprisingly, the B edged the G in braking... yes it was the Brembo'd G.

I think that's because the BMW is 100 pounds lighter than the G...
But since it also has less horsepower, the power-to-weight ratios end up pretty close.

So the lighter BMW brakes a bit shorter, but the acceleration numbers are almost the same up to say, ~ 60 mph.

At higher speeds, the G's larger displacement (horsepower) wins out over
lighter weight -- since once you overcome inertia and start moving, the lighter weight doesn't matter as much
(until you have to stop)

maybe it was because you raced from a roll? no idea considering I never raced one and the only friend I had with a 330ci got it totalled and now owns the new clk55's. I'm guessing the reason why the 330ci posts fast 0-60 times is from the lighter weight and the virtually flat torque curve it has due to it's inline 6 design. However, once up top, while they make the same power, the VQ35 takes over and that's why u were pulling from second.

Dang, my little sis is getting one too. But, I'm not sure if she should get the full option 325ci or base 330ci??

kwakman- i raced from a stop.eventhough he took off a little b4 me, i think either way the bmw would take me off the line. bmws jump off the line quick.

ihatekimch- yea, my sisters 330 is an auto. She loves it, its a great car for a female imo. We did test drive both the 325 and 330, but the 325 is pretty weak for the price that you are paying. I would not pay that much for a car that has less than 200hp.I would say that the 325 is a little quicker than my 99 prelude.Just not worth it imo.

I saw the title "Raced my sisters 330ci" and I thought I will ask quick question. You know, maybe I will get better help from fellow G35 owners. Also, I'm pretty sure we have many X BMW owners in here.
I still have my 97 Prelude SS. I swear it is faster than 325s.
I think I raced both 5sp and autos.....maybe not...
