This is funny. Shocking how everyone who says something negative knows this kids background.

One Hertz, sucks your parents don't love you. If you bring a child into this world they are yours until they die or you die, which ever happens first.

Last I checked a parents love wasn't measured by what they can buy for you.

Toolbag.

BUY IT!
Let me tell you a story...
In 1984 I was 17 and the second gen Toyota Supra came out; my dad already had a new Datsun 280Z and I had his old 260Z. The 260 was showing it's age and the new Supra had a sweet inline twin cam that was possible to do some simple exhaust work and easy to change and degree the camshafts to get above 200HP (that was pretty impressive in 1982 from a Japanese inline 6)...
I had to have the new Supra... I drove to the dealer and although the sales guys were great, the finance guys convinced me the car was too expensive for me. Why don't you buy a nice Celica GTS they asked?
I left disappointed and as I drove home I got mad as hell! How dare some pencil pushing, penny pinching fool tell me I could not afford the Supra!!!
I went to a dealer out of town, put $3500 down (earned cleaning an auto repair shop after school) on the sport model Supra I wanted; it came in 5 months later (the wait was so hard at 17!)... I drove it home and worked hard, I took a second job and studied hard when I could.
I paid off every dollar of the car loan early and never looked back!

Buy the car; study and work hard, educate yourself and know that everyone who said you would struggle was RIGHT! Be happy, be safe, enjoy YOUR G, and prosper!
Good luck!

here's my suggestion: do what im doing.....
-keep it completely stock for a while and enjoy the heck out of it for a while (6 months, year, whatever)
-after a while, make a little upgrade (maybe exhaust or something like that) and then enjoy the heck out of whatever is new on it
-later, add/change something else

the way i look at it is if you mod the crap out of it all right away, you are sort of missing out on the path towards having it modded... if that makes any sense.......... for instance if in the first month of owning the car i got an intake, exhaust, HFCs, tint, suspension, and clear corners and went F/I, then i would have nothing to look forward to later

either way, dont waste all the inheritance from your uncle on your car

as for modding your car give it some time before you decide to do that
last but not least good luck and have fun

I'd say screw modding and save your money for more relevant things at your age dude. I'm guessing you're still in school and hopefully pursuing a sufficiently rewarding career. I know I am... But yeah at 17 I was in the same state of mind as you; my parents had plenty of money to spare. Moms paid my insurance, my gas and half my car payment so why not? I spent a LOT of hard earned cash (restaurant work sucks), on my car and for what? It got vandalized at a Hooters parking lot just weeks after installing my body kit... Disillusioned.. I sold it.. Enter my 2005 G35, my DREAM car because I saw it as the only legal/affordable opportunity of owning a Skyline at the time.. I wanted one since H.S. and at 20 I finally had the means of buying it.. I bought this car MY DAMN SELF.. NO help from mom and dad.. Sure I did some mods, and I don't regret them or the car but, sometimes I think I could have been wiser; Put a couple G's into an investment, or taken a nice vacation to some place I've never been to rather than have spent 2 grand on wheels and tires lol. My point/opinion in short, sometimes I look back at it now and the only word that comes to mind is conformity.. My G was ballin' the moment I drove it for the first time and I knew it, but yet I decided to try and make it unique. But ****, unique is expensive and even if I HAD finished my CF body kit Idea I'm sure someone else with more money than I probably already did it... I think I'm done modding for now, personally I rather do other things like take a trip to Europe while I'm still young or go to Japan. My car is great, life is good, and I'm 22 now and well before my 30th birthday I should be well into a career in Law and making plenty of money to mod some seriously sexy car. But for now, I think I'll remain satisfied with what I have and focused on my school work because that's what really matters to me, not showing off my bad *** car... lol

Tip#1: Never tell people that you're a teen unless they specifically ask for your age. When I saw the thread title, I wanted to go in and flame you, without even reading your post.

im 18 too i got my g about 3 months ago and slowly ive been modding it, you enjoy it more that way, first thing i bought was the injen intake which makes a beautiful sound, that was about a month and a half ago,, now im looking at an HKS exhaust,, im planning on buying it in the next 2 months.... so thats my suggestion, i know the feeling of wanting to put everything all at once but act a little more mature, save and start mod by mod

People gotta realize these cars have been out for a while now, therefore you can find them in the used car market for reasonable prices. No one should be terribly offended if a 17 or 18 year old is driving one these days. Yea, its not the best first car, i'll agree 100%. I don't know any of my friends who haven't gotten in some sort of fender bender when they were younger.

Have fun and be responsible.

p.s. Exhaust first

I haven't seen that the OP has posted but if he's still reading this thread I'd suggest the same as some other people. Do some light engine mods, tint, wheels, etc.

The problem is this. There is no way you will be able to keep buying enough bolt-on performance parts to get it fast enough to say you'll be able to hang with the big dogs. I came to that realization a long time ago. If you do keep buying engine mods, they'll likely get you into some trouble, especially at your age, when there is a lot of temptation. Enjoy the car for what it is. It's a really nice looking coupe, kind of luxurious compared to other cars in the same segment as it, and it'll get you some play.

In my opinion I would recommend in saving your money. I had $100,000+ from an accident, and blew about half of it on a car. I put the remaining amount into my Roth IRA, and what you should do is put your money away. Let your your money work for you. Get a better paying job, so you can afford the car. You shouldn't have to worry about living paycheck to paycheck. I blew a lot of money, but decided to do the smart thing to put the money away. If you can afford it I would say go ahead and do it.
