Why..G35x seem so much more powerful than our G35c

I was put in the G35x for a loaner. The car seems much more powerful throughout. Especially in Gear Limiter (MM) mode. In my coupe I usually don't feel the pull until 3rd, but in this car I'm feeling power throughout. Of course the pull in the G at 4k rpm is much stronger than the sedan but the sedan just feels smoother.

Up shifting in MM is also smoother. My only complaint is that downshifting from 3rd to 2nd isn't a lunge like in the coupe, its a click and its much rougher.

I really didn't care for the auto reclining seats until now....I wish I had that. I just took an off ramp at 60 in the rain! This thing is amazing....but I'm sure I'll miss my coupe by the end of the day.

It's because the ECU learned the driving habits of the people that loan the cars. I bet you baby your coupe.

i drove a loaner even before i got to drive my coupe......when i got my coupe it felt like it was less powerful (like you said) and the sedan brakes felt so much stronger. i think the power is because i always floored the sedan loaner, but the brakes......even now i think the sedan brakes were so much more powerful.....i dun have brembos

Thats exactly what I'm saying. The difference is very noticable. I thought the AWD might of had something to do with. But I know that it only kicks in occasionally, and there is only light rain outside.

Seems like the sedan is much smoother in Drive and has power throughout the RPM's. It was an experience. I still like how the coupe looks much better, but that handling felt great. My coupe feels jerky now whenever I step on the gas since driving the sedan...am I the only one?

You are absolutely right. My bro owns a sedan and for some reason it seems like its smoother and faster than my coupe. I actually wish Infiniti would just simply put the engine and trans setup from the sedan and transplanted into the coupe and charge us the same price as the sedan, then everything would be great and dandy. Peace.

The sedan feels faster, but it isn't right? That's what I thought. As for smoother? I've only been in an AT sedan, and never an AT coupe so I can't compare. I thought that our 6MT coupes were pretty smooth on power delivery already. To me, it seemed pretty close to the 350Z, but the Z SEEMED quicker, probably due to the lighter weight, and shorter wheelbase. Maybe I should go try a 6MT sedan? They won't let me get a loaner since I'm 17. T.T

Whoa. Been a while since I have posted, shame on me. Guys these are my thoughts on this topic which was brought up along time ago when this site first opened. My belief is that is is a couple factors:

1. The base sedan is 100 lbs lighter than the very chunky 6MT coupe. 2. In any automatic transmission car there will be more available torque, (that gut squishy feeling of fast cars), on tap at low rpm's because of the nature of the torque converter in an auto.

This is also why auto's also lag at the top end of the shift as torque is stolen away to shift to the next gear. 3. The softer suspension and tires may give the "feeling" of the car ripping of the line. Those are some of my observations as I have been puzzled by the same feeling in my loaner hours as well.

Also I must admit the 5 speed auto found in the G's is way SMOOTH, making the acceleration feel much more instense as it shifts. I think honestly considering my driving habits and living in Los Angeles that I would've picked the 5AT for my daily driver and left the 6MT in the garage for the weekends. I still love my 6MT though and it's rareness. Off to bed now fellows, good night.

I've never driven a sedan, but IIRC, after averaging them out, the magazine road tests have the coupe faster than the sedan and the 2WD sedan faster than the AWD. The AWD in particular tests slower due to the additional weight/friction of the drivetrain. I supect a "butt dyno" illusion is at work here...

I haven't been in a sedan in a while so was curious do you sit up higher in the sedan than the coupe? This could account for a different "feel" when accellerating. Sitting lower IMO makes a difference in feeling the speed....going from a high seated car to a low seated car it always seems like a low car is going much slower.

I always had a theory that the Sedan's 17" wheel/tire combo that weighs 46 lbs versus the Coupe's 51 lbs has a lot to do with it. Five pounds of unsprung weight does make a difference.

you hit the nail on the head - it's about torque converters. torque converters can give you twice or 3 times the amount of torque on acceleration because the engine spins a lot more than the transmission. at a certain speed, the transmission catches up w/ the engine. this is why also gas mileage is commonly worse on ATs than MTs.
