about to buy 2006 6mt worried about oil consumption
ok im lookin to buy a used 2006 g35 with about 10,000 miles on it going to check it out this weekend. its pretty cheap so it worries me that someone is getting rid of it because of oil consumption issue. is there any way i can tell that it is having the problem because i heard you cannot see the smoke. and if i do end up buying one that may have the problem without knowing what are the chances of Infiniti doing the right thing and replacing the defective engine? and how long does it take for a new eng to be installed? thanks guys
its a long process to get an engine installed. You have to verify that you engine is burning ENOUGH oil before the dealership gives a cr@p. You will have to pay to have them change your oil, then return every 1000k miles and have them measure how much is burned. If its more than 1 quart per 1k there are suppose to stop the test and go ahead with new engine.
Instead mine burned 1.5 in 1k and they made me drive back again! Anyway, the new engine only takes about 2 days to install, its infiniti getting the engine from corporate that can take awhile
Ive had my engine replaced twice, one burned oil...other was a dud and I dont really blame infiniti.
You will get a nice 07 loaner sedan to have "fun" in a week or two.

i got me an 06 6mt, most likely its not buring oil.. dammit haha, but my local infiniti dealer forgot the dipstick on my first oil change, now i got them by the *****, next few oil changes r free.. haha but no oil consumption issues here, just though id offer my 2 cents
found a private one for 24gs 2006 with 9k miles no premium package, just the sport and 6mt what do you think.
oh yeah and what about tire wear on the 06s is it bad? and how do u fix the problem? how much would it cost

It's a roll of the dice with OC issues. Some have it some don't.
1qt/1000mi or worse is the old replacement standard prior to TSB with that issue on the revup VQ's.
Oil changes are free if it falls under TSB guidelines requiring such and only takes one confirmation, not three now.
See if you can get VIN and go to a dealer.
Maybe they'll run VIN for you and then find out if owner has had an OC test with those results and/or engine has already been replaced by a dealer or not.
TSB will take care of the issue no matter what, but your decision if you want to hassle that if it has OC after you buy it.

look around the filler cap and underneath. If it's using lots of oil, you will see where it has been spilled topping it off.
