Some questions for coupe owners

So with the coupe being such a low car itself, how many of you have a hard time NOT getting careless scratches under the front bumper? So far, the second week having the car, I have a couple already Careless errors on driveways and those parking bumps. I drove an SUV before and this is going to take some time getting used to...

Also, I am wondering if this is normal...for those of you with the keyless FOB. I have an A/T and I used to have to press down the break pedal to start up the car. Otherwise, the **** wouldn't turn all the way and a green "key" icon would light up. Today, I could start it up without pressing down the break. Is this normal??? This is really really bugging the hell out of me.

And then there's the window auto pinch feature. The driver side doesn't go down the 1/2 or 1/4 inch anymore. It barely "auto" moves down when I open the door. I did park at one of those Central Parking lots in Manhattan yesterday and I have been noticing all these problems. I suspect they caused all this (except for the scratches under bumper). Am I going crazy?

I don't have any problem scraping the front end.
I also don't have the brake problem.

I've never pressed on the brake to start my car.

The green key icon does show for a second when you start the car.
If it flashes for a bit, that's the warning for a low battery in your keyfob.

There's known issues with the window motors going out.
Let me search a bit and see what I can find for you.

Edit: plug in window motors or bad window in the search feature on the grey bar above. I pulled up a ton of threads.

Yea the window motor is a common problem. I just replaced mine 2 days ago. If it comes down to that order the window motor at a local autozone, western auto etc. and install it yourself. It will save you big $$ and is pretty easy to do. Look under DIY theres a great write up on it.

I scrape everything. My bumber is a magnet for rocks, bugs, and shredded truck tire treads. Front of my car looks like crap. =(

3M clear bra is your friend. It's amazing the junk it's saved my car from. I had someone brush the corner of my bumper trying to exit a parallel parking spot. The only thing messed up was the 3M which can be peeled away and reapplied.

Yeah, but I have heard those things change color over time and look terrible.

It's been 2.5 years and it's fine.

Depends on how nice the clearbra is. I know a lot of guys with Porsche's that use them, and have had them for years and they still look fine.

And the scraping of the bumper doesn't bother me. My coupe is relatively low on coilovers, it occasionally scrapes, but I can usually maneuver the car to prevent any visible scratches.

I back into my garage to make it easier to leave for work in the morning. I have to back into my driveway at an angle or I drag the front end. I had a lifted 4Runner up until a week ago so this is all new for me. The first time I did it, it was completely unexpected and sent shivers up my spine.

I always press the brake when starting my car so I can't help on the second part. I hadn't even noticed the key icon.

I guess I don't understood how the anti-pinch feature works. I see the window jump up about a 1/2 inch after the door shuts, but I never notice it going down when I open the door. Is that when it happens? As soon as you release the door latch?

Ok you have changed my mind. I'm gonna look into it again once I finalize which bumper I'm gonna run.

so after finally reading the manual, you DON'T have to have your foot on the brake for starting up the car (A/T models). only the push button ones you have to have the foot on the brake.

as for the anti-pinch feature, the window does roll down a lil bit, usually 1/2 inch when you open the door (for the coupes, dont know about the sedans). went to my dealer, long story short, window motor had to be replaced. apparently, the reset wouldn't even take, only gave beeping error sounds. but great service though, even though i had to be a little persistent about the issue.
