Their is a plastic piece attaced on the sides of the G35; between the door line and rear tire arch. Anyone know why this is there? Having a pearl white car I'm noticing the edges of this piece getting more dirty & harder to clean.

Has anyone taken this off? How did you go about doing this?

i would not recommend taking the plastic off, they are there for the protection of the paint. for some reason the shape of the g leads to rock chips right at that area.
hope that helps, oh and to clean it just a detail brush to get the wax out of the crevices.

LEAVE IT ON!!! It might look bad now, but when that area is plastered with paint chips, it will look worse!

its a stoneguard..... ALOT of complaining to get this to be oem, i bet....

also, if you are experiencing discoloration, just wax it thoroughly (or double) to help keep it fresh.... luckily, its thick enough to have a pronounced edge; easier to remove buildup..(IMO)

my RX-8 had these on there as well. I thought it was just a japanese thing.

 

Leave it there. They are there for paint chip protection like a clear bra.

I try to keep that area clean as well.....but it always seems to have a dark build up around the edges.....

When I detail my car I clean around the area with some mild turpentine on a rag....it usually removes a lot of the build up, and then I protect it with a non-residue type wax......

I have a IP coupe as well and I stripped that stuff off in 2 stages after I bought mine. The clear piece is such an eyesore and it has a tendency to to get alot of dirt into the edge of the clear pieces. I have taken mine off for a few weeks now it looks perfectly fine--I don't have mudguards either =P

I stripped off the top portions first, its in 2 sections. You could just leave the bottom one if you want but it collects teh dirt on the edges. I would take it off on a warm day or heat it slightly with a hair dryer first, otherwise it will leave alot of glue residue, that googone stuff will take care of it.

Mine looks soooooooooooooooo nice and clean with it not there and I've had my IP for a few months now with lots of miles on it, still perfect...

Think of the clear film as being like a condom for your G...
Sure it's a drag, but you're probably smarter to leave it on.
