Thanks.

Re: Quick G Question

the manual suggests to go to the highest gear as soon as you can, for 65-70 mph 5th for AT 6 for MT

Re: Quick G Question

Oh, ok

I just thought since the G35 can go 60 mph in 2nd gear, that it was supposed to be higher on the turnpike, but not 6.

Thanks.

Re: Quick G Question

Or 3rd or 4th depending on how aggressively you want to accelerate coming out of the turnpike....

Re: Quick G Question

Depends on how much power you want. 3rd will rev pretty high and will probably give you the best acceleration while 6th will get you the best fuel economy with the weakest acceleration.

Re: Quick G Question

exactly, you didn't say you want power and acceleration, otherwise i would have suggested differently

Re: Quick G Question

Would it be bad to continously drive on 3rd or 4th while going that fast, or are those gears only good for quick acceleration.

Sorry for the dumb questions, I'm new to manual, and I'm ordering my coupe this weekend.

Re: Quick G Question

I would say that up to around 4 or 5k it wouldn't be too bad to drive there for a little while, but after that (and even at that point too I guess), there's really no reason to put that kind of stress on the engine if you're just crusing. Besides, you'd probably see single digit gas mileage if you do

Re: Quick G Question

Areddy -- I have 6MT as well and here is how I look at it. If my concern is power and/or acceleration, I leave the car in lower gears (maybe run around 3-3.5 K). Once I am in cruising mode, I find the HIGHEST GEAR possible. This might even mean 5th gear going only 45 mpm. That helps with fuel economy and less engine stress. That makes up for all the red-line starts!!!
