My G has 6500 miles on it and just yesterday I went to "raise" the sunroof and it made a god-aweful rubbing/squealing sound as it went up. I searched the board and found some "rattling" sunroofs, but nothing like this. It has never happened before and only makes the sound when raising the roof, not retracting it. Upon further inspection, it seems as if the rubber lining is rubbing the painted ledge of the roof and making this sound. Has anyone experienced this?? If so, is there a DIY fix or should I take it to the dealer??

All the dealer is gonna do is add grease to the moldings surrounding it.

 

ncozby has a fix for it, i'm not sure what he uses but at the last meet we just had he fixed a couple of cars with it. I'm just going to let the dealer handle it myself. i have an appointment set already anyway

Mine does that too, as well as creak and squeek when I make turns with bumps, or going down a driveway while turning, etc.

I've been meaning to try some silicone protectant for weatherstripping on the rubber seal, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm pretty sure its the dry rubber seal that's making the noise.

mine does it too. i took it to the dealer and it went away for about 3 days, and after that, surprise surprise, it was back.

I have been back repeatedly for this. And I even got my own 3M spray so I wouldnt have to keep going back. Finally I convinced them that my sunroof seal had dry rot. I was not enjoying the thought of them replacing the glass, but luckly no damage. However, in a week, the squeaking was back.

Then someone on FA posted about Gummi pflege. I called local BMW place and they wanted $17+ I got mine from Autopia in a few days at most. Great place.

The Gummi pflege itself is much easier to deal with than 3M silicon spray (on rag, the on seal) as it has an applicator. Its non toxic and doesnt stink like 3M spray.. So far its lasted much longer. How long? dunno, the squeak hasnt returned

I also gummi-ed my door seals and now I dont hear the motor strain during the anti pinch. Its totally quiet now. And it doesnt leave residue on the window. Great stuff so far.

Mine did that too and I started to feel like I just bough a pice of @#$%%%. But then I remembered this just cold not be true.

Its an easy fix, turns out all I had to do was open it up in the flip up position and tread the rubber edge with the same stuff I put on my tires.

Reason: when you was your car soo much as most of us do, it becomes such a tight dry fit against the metal it sqeewls. If you take note, it usually pops up a few days after good car wash.

A little ruber treatment, like or better then Armor All will do the trick every few weeks or after the wash.

 

mine just rattles when the sunroof door is open

 

I had my car in for service recently and I told my dealer about a rattle I was hearing. I thought it was coming from the rear end of the car. It was actually coming from the sunroof. The mechanism for opening the sunroof had a couple of loose components. Once tightened down and the sunroof was lubed the problem was resolved. No more rattle

The dealer said this is a common problem that they see often. The car was serviced at Ray Catena Infiniti in NJ.

Mine squeaked, creaked and groaned too. I fixed it myself with Eagle WET silicone tire dressing. Just squirted some on a rag, and wiped it on the moonroof seal all around. Problem solved. I was amazed at how the rubber seal seemed so dried out and old already. Somehow I don't think that seal is gonna last very long. Gotta love 5 year warranties. [img]/w3timages/icons/smile.gif[/img]
