These "I killed an S2K" threads are insipid.

We have both an 04 S2K and an 04 G35C in our family. The S2K has a slight edge in performance and the G35C has a huge edge in luxury and quietness.

You can't revoke the laws of physics: the S2K has a slightly better horsepower-to-weight ratio:

S2K: 2835 lbs, 240 HP = 11.81 lbs/HP
G35C: 3420 lbs, 280 HP = 12.21 lbs/HP

Yes, you have to go to very high RPMs to get the S2K to perform. If your primary goal in life is to "Kill" S2Ks, then buy one of the stripped down 350Z's; some of them are over 200 lbs lighter. Otherwise, just enjoy your G35C for what it is: a very powerful luxury-oriented, and gorgeous coupe.

AlanP, perhaps everyone should post a list of subjects that meet his or her approval; and any subject that is not unanimously agreed upon could then be banned from this board. I see your point regarding the performance of each car, but no one is debating that.

I'm not doubting that our cars can beat s2000s, because they lack torque, but it wasnt a fair race since he probably had to let off the gas to go around you. I'm sure he's not an idiot and tried to launch when he is behind you.

I agree with Kahboom's POV, although I understand the point which Takuyaah is making too, and I think it's a valid one. But you guys are making two different points.
This argument is like a pancake, no matter how simple you think it is, it still has two sides and always will.

In street-racing (particularly when betting is involved) often the racers will mutually agree to give one of the cars a lead or head-start. If car A is perceived to be faster than car B, then car A may agree to a handicap of starting 1 or 2 car lengths behind car B – that's not an unusual occurrence. If both parties agree to this race, then the winner is simply the one who crosses the finish line first – regardless of the starting conditions.

Similarly, if the S2K challenges the G from one car length behind, and that challenge is accepted, then the result should be taken at face value. In other words, the participants defined the conditions under which the contest should take place, there was an implicit acceptance of the conditions by both parties, and thus the winner is simply the one who came out ahead. Period.

By analogy, if a guy saw that I had a three foot long samurai sword, and he nevertheless challenged me to a sword fight with a butter knife, then by challenging me he has implied acceptance of the contest despite his disadvantaged position. If I then chopped off his head, then I would declare myself the winner... and I would go so far as to say that I was the unconditional winner. That is essentially what I think Kahboom is saying.


Having said that, I think what Takuyaah is saying is that that particular result under that particular condition is not a valid indicator of the relative performance of the two cars in question. I think that is good point, but in fairness I don't think Kahboom ever denied that fact.

I think that Takuyaah's objection here is that the G was merely a conditional winner, and he probably would prefer to reserve the term *smoked* for unconditional victories -- i.e. when two cars race without having relative disadvantages (like starting position). In that sort of a race, one could simply conclude that the winner would be the car with the better performance or the better driver. I think that is a valid point and I'm glad he made it.


The problem with debates like this is that although they start off as assertions of one's argument, they quickly turn into argumentae ad hominid (that is, "attacks on the man" or each other's characters/ persons -- and trivial points like spelling, grammar etc. -- which have absolutely nothing to do with the original argument...)

you the man metasystem...i guess i got carried away at the point where i simply posted something and seems like someone didn't even read it and just go..."he doesn't have a g35...english is not his primary language....he didn't say something to praise g35...kill him"..u know? i always try to explain that he can totally post what happened and just said he raced the s2k and won...but..another s2k going down seems uncalled for since i dun think all s2k went down that way to g35's....to your analogy....if a noob challenge u with a butter knife to your samurai sword....after u kicked his boo-tay...i dun think you would go around and say something like.."i owned that diasy sniffer" since u know...it doesn't really matter what his skill is....u probably would just say what happened and avoid using the word "owned" or anything so silly...tell me someone understand what im saying...
