Re: girl crashes after looking at my car
I guess this proves the new research that said most accidents are caused by "Rubber Necking".
<blockquote><font class="small">In reply to:</font><hr>
Rubbernecking was responsible for the largest number of accidents reported (16%) followed by driver fatigue (12%), looking at scenery or landmarks (10%), passenger or child distractions (9%), adjusting the radio, tape, or CD player (7%), and cell phone use (5%).
<hr></blockquote>
Funny how it is usually the other way around, meaning looking at women causing accidents.

Re: girl crashes after looking at my car
I had something similar happen one time in my Wrangler. I had just washed and waxed it, and it was a nice summer day, so I was cruising with the top down. I noticed a hot blonde in a silver Mustang GT ahead of me at the light, so I sped by her. I got her attention, and she sped back by me, and cut in front of me and waived. I waived back, and she was looking back at me and failed to notice the big Lincoln making a right into the bank ahead...needless to say, I saw it over the top of her car, and changed lanes, but she didn't, because she was looking back at me, and plowed right into the back of that Lincoln. Poor girl. I felt really bad, but never had the guts to go back and get her number from her while she was waiting for the cops and a tow-truck. I never saw that Mustang again.

Re: girl crashes after looking at my car
My story addresses what I think is the more prevelant reason for accidents caused by "rubberneckin'".
Back in the early '70s.....
I was driving home when I spotted the longest legs in the shortest red miniskirt I'd ever seen.
Now you may think at this point that it was I who had the accident. Nope, I was changing lanes and was already braking in behind cars, waiting for the stop light, when I spotted her.
The next thing I spotted, in my rear view mirror, was a late model (at that time) Mercury Capri.
There was no doubt what was happening. The driver was watching her and not the traffic ahead (me).
The Merc driver finally slammed on his brakes and the Capri did a nose dive under my '67 Camaro.
Damage to Capri:
Smashed headlight
Smashed grill
Smashed radiator
Dented right front fender
Folded up hood
Smashed windshield
Damage to my Camaro:
Dented rear license plate
I took some of the blame (by confessing to having just switched lanes) so the driver didn't get written up such that he'd lose his license (rearending was major back then). After all, she got my attention also and it could have just as easily been me.
I still think that the passenger smashed the windshield. But seeing that he, and the driver, were jarheads, no damage was done to them. (I can call them jarheads (leather necks, devil dogs, etc...) since my dad was career gyrene. )

Re: girl crashes after looking at my car
it's those rubberneckers we gotta get rid of.. too bad it's everyone's tendency to look at anything out of the ordinary even if it means they're looking directly behind instead of in front like they should be..
