Re: Why not... Boxster S vs. Gcoupe

You guys are getting really pathetic.

I think the point Z06 is making is that even if you prefer imports, you can't deny that America has the potential to make a worthy car. If you, for whatever reason, don't think American cars fit your standards, then that's up to you; however, do not denounce American cars only because they are made in the USA and that automatically equates them with low-quality.

Takuyaah made the point that in the past Japanese cars have been more reliable and definitely continue to truck on with that image. However, there is no doubt that the Americans have caught up to some extent (fit and finish on GMs have drastically shot up and so has Ford's quality), although there might not be that "polished feel" one gleans in a German or Japanese car. For the record, the Germans, who personally I feel have had incredible "feel of quality" in their autos, have slipped tremendously as of late in terms of quality control and reliability.

The original topic has pretty much been answered, and I don't mind the thread evolving or anything, but you guys are just flaming each other now and looking really silly.

PostScript: Hooray for 4Runners.

Re: Why not... Boxster S vs. Gcoupe

That is definitely true. BMWs have sort of been in the closet with so-so reliability (people assume they were awesomely reliable) and Benz has been terrible as of late; I hear the newer E series is notoriously bad. I had an '89 420SEL (tank of a sedan) and it was in the shop way too much.

Audi has restyled but personally I think it is far more conservative of a move compared to BMWs restyling, and will actually help Audi garner more sales since BMWs styling has gone funky and Benz's reliability is in question.

And I concur that in general, Americans have definitely not quite caught up to the Japanese in reliability. The thing is, when you are trying to erase a questionable history like American automakers are in the field of quality and build a new image that competes with long-standing frontrunners (such as the Japanese), you've gotta not only match your opponent, but surpass by far in order to gain the confidence of the consumer base.

As a member of the consumer base, I can say that I'm definitely seeing good signs, but my confidence has not been fully swayed quite yet.

Re: Why not... Boxster S vs. Gcoupe

actually..my whole family used to like bmw a lot...but in recent years...all of the new ones have problems rather quickly (under 10K miles) electronics usually...and mercedez is totally crap...my friend had to go in like 4 times in a year in her c320....i dunno..audi gained a lot of reputation for making nice interior and what not..although performance is rather...BAD......(known for harsh ride and bad handling)..but at the end of the day..when u go up to the high end of those cars..E class..S class...7 series.....(if u have 100K for no good use)...i think its the best thing u can get....

My grandpa has a 2002 S500 and it's running quite nicely and is fairly quick for such a lunker. However, I was at the Audi dealership a few weeks ago and that A8L is a HOT car. It's a lot cheaper than the Benz or Bimmer as well.

a8l...ya..its pretty nice..but for that kinda money..i suggest u look at the new 745...its quite nice...inside/outisde/performance.....i just wish that audi makes the s4 a little better...i mean.they aim to beat the m3...dun they? ...s500 is sick =)...i am telling u..i think part reason for mercedez and bmw decreasing quality is because they r decreasing price as well...5-10 years ago...u can never dream of getting a mercedez or bmw under 40k...now u can...325 and c230..i dun blame them...they lost a lot of sales due to lexus and acura infiniti and what not...not to mention audi/vw...i still remember when vw was considered an unreliable car back then

Re: Why not... Boxster S vs. Gcoupe

The great thing about America is freedom, and part of that is freedom of choice. I buy whomever makes the best product. Best being in terms of performance, price, reliability (and I'm not just talking about cars). I admit that typically, this means I'm not buying a strictly American designed or manufactured product (on the other hand many American products are manufactured elsewhere, and you've probably read the news about American companies outsourcing their workers from other countries) since in my experience and research, other countries products are better. I've had both American cars (Ford) and Japanese cars (Honda and Nissan) and I've always been more satisfied with my Japanese cars in terms of quality, features, looks, performance, etc... I don't buy into the whole "support your country blindly" philosophy. As a capitalist country, if American companies want to compete for my money, well, they better start competing better.

Re: Why not... Boxster S vs. Gcoupe

word up man...u know what...if the quality of stuff is close to the same...i would go for american made ones just because i know i am supporting my country..but you cannot make me buy something just because its american made when i know there's better/cheaper stuff out there....
to support a country is not to blindly devote everything...thats how u support a communist country...in a capatalist country...buying power converts into the motivation of improvement....if ford knows that..no matter how they make their car...everyone in america would buy it...do u think they will improve at all?...i think not...you have to give credit to them when they do improve..but before then..you have to know how to say NO...i am not falling in that "patriotic" trap

Re: Why not... Boxster S vs. Gcoupe

yea audi reliability sucks. but we germans get killer warrenty and maintence programs. since ive had my audi, about 5 months now...my maf sensor died, rotors warped, and now my control arms are bad....oh well not gonna cost me a penny cept the rotors, i decided to go with dba slotted rotors cuz the oems will warp again.......
japanese does have better reliability, but damn my infiniti had 3 bad fuel injectors and other bs engine problems....costed me 1600 at 48k miles.....other than that....i had no problems...
o btw, if you do have 70g's and are in the market for a lux sedan.....seriously look at the new A8's. im not being bias...that car is SICK. more like a plane~

Re: Why not... Boxster S vs. Gcoupe

but if all that stuff keeps breaking after your warranty is over, what do you do?

i personally think volkswagens are the biggest pos's in the world; they have good looking cars, but they absolutely fall apart.

LOL What plane are you referring to! I've flown many and my impression is that the A8 is 100X as luxurious as the typical general aviation aircraft. It might be comparable to a Lear or Gulfstream but your typical aircraft is more akin to a Chevette with wings.

i was thinking that way about 5-10 years ago...but if you look again....after VW bought audi...VW is getting better and better every year (probably leeched off mercedez/audi)..but still...its not gonna fall apart like it used to be anymore...
