Not really. Most American cars these days will last as just as long as a Japanese car. I've driven several American cars well over 100k miles and 7+ years old with few problems or issues. I know many friends and neighbors with American cars that kept going for well over 200k miles. And these are all older models from the '80s and early 90's - not the prime quality years for American auto manufacturers. They've only improved since then.
If you abuse any car and "drive it like your stole it" and don't maintain it, etc., it will give you problems down the road, no matter what brand or country it came from.

Re: Why not... Boxster S vs. Gcoupe
i have to admit that american cars nowadays are much better than the ones from yester-year. however, to say that they are comparable to their japanese counterparts would be a bit of an exageration. as a whole, japanese cars are more reliable. like-wise, as a whole, american cars are more unreliable. i think your experiences have been unique. and despite your experiences, most ppl would easily choose a honda over a ford anyday.
as far as your statement on taking care of your car, i think that is irrelevent since both american and japanese cars will have more problems when not routinely serviced and what not. but i think the main issue in reliability is low maintenance and costs. every honda or toyota owner i know ( and i emphasize "i know") just does the routine oil change and their cars have lasted forever. many american car owners i know (once again, i emphasize many not all), have money pits for their cars since they are constantly dumping out dough for maintenance and repairs.
you seems to really be a patriotic person and totally support america. not saying that's bad cuz i love my country as well. but i would not buy an american product if it's sh$tty just cuz it's american. and to feel that way doesn't make me un-american....just a smart shopper: )

As for quality, the big 3 all produce vehicles that are ranked among the top 5 or top 10, and in some cases #1 in their respective categories in J.D. Power's Initial Quality studies. Most studies have shown that the quality gap between Japanese and U.S. makes has narrowed so substantially that its almost insignificant, on average.

what studies? you provide jd power as your only real form of evidence, yet you go on later to dismiss them. what exactly are you trying to prove, because i'm getting confused.
as for bang for the buck, when did you become such a prominent fan of that? last i checked, you dog on evos and stis because of their econobox origins. you obviously enjoy interiors and exteriors... so when does that come into play in the "bang for the buck" category? does an accord look better than a malibu? damn right. does it perform better? yes. does its interior look better than a malibu? yup.
as for the gtr being overrated as a performer: refer to the bmi videos in which the r34 faces off against stis or evos... generally speaking, the r34 kills them.

Jesus H Christ. Why don't you guys take this crap to the xenaphobe.com forum. The thread started with a Boxster vs G posting. Now it's degenearted to a "Your mother wears army boots" BS mentality. Oops, sorry if I offended anyone. Really, I mean it, I respect all cultures and people, I mean diversity is so great and everything. Geez!

I'm not trying to PROVE anything! Relax!
Many of you keep $hitting on American cars like they're total junk. The only cars that are good are imports, and that's it. I'm here to say that that mentality is B.S., and you're ignorant, juvenile, and biased if you feel that way. That's all.
Some of you people are freakin impossible!
It's clear to me you're all import lovers and domestic haters, and that'll never change. So go hug your import and live in ignorant bliss. I really don't care anymore. When you grow up, you'll learn that I was right.
I'm wasting my time even discussing this with you import people.

Re: Why not... Boxster S vs. Gcoupe
your choice......ford explorer or toyota 4runner? cadillac or lexus? no matter how you choose, it's capitalism at it's best. consumers buy what they want. why does z06ified get so pissed off? i don't get it. so what if some prefer imports over domestic cars. is everything you own made in the U.S.A? unlikely. IT'S NOT UN-AMERICAN TO BUY NON-U.S. PRODUCTS. it's not un-american to like japanese cars. it's not un-american to think some imports are better than some domestic cars.
why do ppl have so much anger in them....it's just a discussion and stating of opinions...jeez: )

I NEVER SAID ANY OF THAT!!!
Z2G - you're ASSUMING things - you know what that makes: an a$$ out of you and me.
Look, my biggest beef with import lovers such as yourself, is no matter how good an American car is, you don't want anything to do with it because its an American car. In other words, import lovers don't look at cars objectively. They're BIASED to loving only imported cars and nothing else, even if the imported car is inferior.
I have ZERO respect for someone who thinks that way. I respect people with open minds - not closed minded biased people.

Re: Why not... Boxster S vs. Gcoupe
well, i agree that people that dog widely on american cars purely for being american are generally ignorant idiots. i'd much prefer to get an american car over a german car any day of the week. the quality generally isnt there in american cars... but without a doubt, there are always good aspects to consider

Re: Why not... Boxster S vs. Gcoupe
i think a lot of people here are not biased towards american cars. it's just from personal experiences and what they read, they feel domestic cars are usually not as reliable. it think that's more of a fact though as a whole. so, how can you have no respect for them just because you disagree?
as far as me being an a$$ for assuming, that's fine. however, i can't help thinking that because throughout this whole post, you definitely give the impression that having a certain opinion about domestic cars means you don't love your country and that you must love another country. just read the previous posts and see how you sound.
you talk about being biased to loving an import car despite it being inferior. but i'm confused to which car you believe they are biased against which also is supposedly better. i tried reading through the whole thread again and no one pinpoints any domestic car.
if you feel like we insulted your vette, i don't think anyone including myself did that. we all respect corvettes. they are nice cars. perhaps somehow you thought we were bashing ALL american cars including your vette, which we were not.
so everyone here will agree.....your vette is SWEET and NICE!!!! i hope this war is over : )

Re: Why not... Boxster S vs. Gcoupe
exactly z2g....i would get a vette when i get that kinda money...but for bangs for the buck and stuff...i think i would go for japanese car for its WELL KNOWN RELIABILITY and when i got flithy rich..i will go for mercedez/audi/bmw/porsche...and then when i still have too much money...maybe american cars..just for the raw power and fun....vette..viper is worth the fun...if it makes u feel any better..mercedez is part american own...so..ya...no hating on american companies..lol..just american makers....
dun hate people because they think import cars r better...just the same why i never hated you cuz u like domestic cars although u failed to show any kinda backup...
