Custom Y-Pipe Exhaust

Custom Y-Pipe Exhaust
I had my friend at Kinney's Muffler build me another custom muffler. Instead of an X-Pipe like he had done on other cars, we did a Y-Pipe setup into a single in dual out magnaflow exhaust. The Y-pipes start with new flanges and are 2.5 inches thick which merges at the flex pipe. From the flex pipe it goes into a 3 inch mandrel bent pipes into the 3 inch Magnaflow muffler. From the muffler 2 2.5 inch mandrel bent pipes finish into 2 corsa tips. The sound is deeper than stock and sound better than other x-pipe setups I have heard. The sound is very similar to the fujitsobo setup. The car has great pull and even in 4th gear at 30mph...Ill have pics up soon...PM me and ill give you more details

Re: Custom Y-Pipe Exhaust
Why'd you combine the pipes then seperate them at the muffler? I hope your pulled it of on sound quality wise, I've never seen anyone pull off a no resonator system that sounds right. What size is the Magnaflow?

Re: Custom Y-Pipe Exhaust
went with this cause its 2.5 from the cats to a 3 inch flex that goes into a 3inch magnaflow to 2.5 outlets...the fujitsobo sustained damage while driving to houston...road gash that was fixed by welding so I took it off and had kirk build this and it pulls better than the fuji...i cant seem to get it to post pics though

Re: Custom Y-Pipe Exhaust
I see two issues, the crushbends are costing you flow and the steep angle of inclination at the Y collector. Doing a custom system you can prevent those things, didn't they put you in charge of design?

Re: Custom Y-Pipe Exhaust
the bends are minimal and don't hinder flow and also the stock size is quite smaller than the new piping, also if have lifted your car you would see the stock y-pipe is almost 2 90 degree bends before connecting so this design is a huge improvement...secondly the angle you cant tell from the pictures, but again a prototype to build off of...once we get it set correctly we can send off for mandrel bending from the cats back...

Re: Custom Y-Pipe Exhaust
so, what's the estimated cost on a setup of this type (with resonators)? I am currently contemplating various custom designs that will maximize the power I feel my test pipes while optimizing the sound quality... gsedan25 - I have seen pics before of your setup, but don't remember where... do you think you can post those? Also, where did you find the Injen mufflers by themselves?
I am looking to come off of the test pipes, into a custom X-pipe formed from two smaller y-pipes, into 2 18" magnapack resonators, into either two GReddy canister mufflers or Injen mufflers like Gsedan35's.... what do ya'll think? What size piping would maximize the power output if I'm planning on staying N/A? Sorry to hijack the thread, but maybe since ya'll are talking custom exhausts, this can help others contemplating this route - Thanks!

Re: Custom Y-Pipe Exhaust
I ended up paying right at a grand...but its cheaper if u keep your own tips...the tips alone were 200...but again the whole system has a lifetime warranty cause of the materials...magnaflow and corsa both warranty out their parts for the lifetime of the part, and ss piping is the same through the shop, this shop has been making custom piping since 1979...also they have a website....www.kinneysmufflershop.com...they make a x-pipe system to, but this has better flow then then x and is 200 bucks cheaper

Re: Custom Y-Pipe Exhaust
so, gsedan35, where did you get the Injen Mufflers? Are they the ones from the angled or straight version? do you have any pics of the tips? I have seen you're other pics somewhere else, but never really saw any pics of the actual tips... Thanks!

Re: Custom Y-Pipe Exhaust
Well here in about a week or so...I'll dyno the prototype vs the mandrel y pipe that we are ordering now that we have built this. As for the muffler shop, Kinney's has been around a long time and have had many many high dollar cars come through and have built top of the line custom systems...look at their website before you generalize everyone together. These people know what they are talking about and the the 3 times we have tweaked the system I was not charged for adding 2 resonators to the system or for them to order the mandrel y pipe just to prove the flow is not hindered. BTW this is all a free exchange of ideas, not bashing...opinions are opinions until they are proven fact...like I said...when the mandrel y pipe comes in ill post dyno results...good post gsedan35
