91 is the highest I've seen in SoCal since they cut 92 out

Up here in Ontario, I use Petrocan gas -- super, which is 91 octane. It has Techron in it like your Chevron does.

About 15 years ago, some of our local, independant "Thrifty" gas stations were pumping 94 octane. Do you remember that? I used to run it in my Mitsubishi pickup all of the time. But like everything else, nothing good lasts forever. [img]/w3timages/icons/tongue.gif[/img]

yeah, here in nor-cal, we only get 91 as well. just curious though, is it much different with 91 vs 93, 94, or higher?

 

93 octane only. Highest I can find locally. The Sunoco's that are nearby only go up to 93.

No need to go higher than 91 for the coupe. The ignition timing was tuned for the engine to run at 91. Run lower and you run the risk of setting off the knock sensors, which will result in ignition timing retard and will lower your engine performance. Run higher than 91 and you are just wasting your money, unless you are running high compression with FI and have the need for higher octane.

Where I live, Sunoco uses 93 octane and they are three cents cheaper per gallon than ExxonMobil & Shell (used to be a Texaco) which are using 91 octane. $2.03 (93 Octane) vs $2.06 (91 Octane) as of this morning.

 

This is not true. 93 octane does make a difference. Put the highest you can.

I use Sunoco 94 ultra. It is cheaper than most other gas station's 91 octane.

Does it matter if you use different gas companies? I heard that if you stick to Exxon stick with exxon gas, it's better for your car. But does quality of gas really differ that much between gas companies?
