Suspension install: Front lower Shock Bolt Seised in bushing?

Hey guys, i have a question. I just started to try to install my front suspension for my 04' G coupe, and i tried to get the first bottom bolt with a nut on the outside off by hand and my homemade 'torque wrench'. That mostly gets anything off unless its REALLY tight on there.

That didnt work, so when crap like this happens i use my get me outta s h i t Electric Impact Gun, that with the 17mm still didnt get her loose!!! I went at it for like 3 mins! It is still tight on there like none other. I used some stuff to try to lube it, even though i dont have PB Blaster. I might go buy this stuff, but seeing how that lower bolt goes through a bushing...could it possibly be seiszed? Has this happened to anyone? Any help??

Thanks in advance!

I don't think it's seized. Get a good pneumatic gun or a good sized breaker bar. Those electric guns don't put out much compared to pneumatics.

If you use a breaker bar, make sure your socket wrench is 1/2 inch drive. I shattered my 3/8 inch drive socket wrench on that same bolt a month ago.

If you use an impact gun, use a true 17mm impact socket. I broke two regular 17mm sockets on that bolt on the same day.

Also - PB Blaster is your friend.

PB Blaster, let it sit for a good 30 minutes too. And yes, if you are applying that much torque and it's still not budging then you had better use a 1/2" drive.

God, i went so hard at that nut with my electric torque wrench that it ate the screw lol. I had a bad 17mm anyways, it was the multisided one. :hammer:

Well i was then forced to go to my buddies shop so he can help me out with his air compressor and what ever else his expensive shop has to help lol!

Man i am sad, this is the first time my electric Impact Gun failed on me.

I guess i finally found its limitations and how a compressor air impact gun would totally helped me out. I even have a compressor, but its for my air nail gun for my side work, need to buy adapters or whatever is needed to get it to convert so its a torque wrench or impact air gun.

With that said, i was busy and didnt get able to start on the rear until now. I just finished the right side, and almost finished the left, but i am having trouble lining up the spring lifter thing, with the rear hub hole! I cant line it up good enough, i get the screw through one side, and then cant get it through to the other! I banged it with a hammer, shook it up and down, i just wish i had someone else to help me lol. Well i will have to finish up the install tommorrow, as i have a soccer game tonight. Gotta rest.

Any tips guys? I know i will get this done tommorrow, but want to maybe go at this again maybe now with a better plan. lol

Are the bottom bolt and nut for the front strut tapered or something? I was tightening it and it is very tough to tighten any more, but I can still spin the bolt/nut if I don't hold the nut with the wrench. Should I be able to do that? Shouldn't the bolt and nut hold to the strut tightly with no free spin?

Damn I hate days like that and everyone's been there. Time to visit Sears for a good compressor and impact gun!

Hi Gary what do you recommended my budget is $160.00. You think i can find a compressor and an impact gun for that price.

No spinna, but for your $160 I'll cut a 3' long 3/4" diameter pipe that will give you tons of leverage.... Deal or No Deal?

Mine was siezed as well. I ended up breaking a ratchet, a 17mm socket and BENDING my 24" breaker bar. When it eventually broke loose....it made a loud BANG!! and I thought I broke the new 17mm socket but I didn't.
