2003 6MT with oil consumption? Infiniti installing new Motor!
2003 6MT with oil consumption? Infiniti installing new Motor!
Going to the dealership for an appointment to get my window regulators fixed, I ended up leaving with them telling me I may need a new motor due to Oil consumption. I have a 2003 G35 with 59k (extended elite warranty till 77k)and I didnt think the Oil Consumption problem applied to this year but I guessed wrong. The service manager had told me to leave the car at the dealership for a couple hours and they would call to let me know what happend after the 23 pages of tests they had to run. The SM told me there was something wrong internally and that they needed receipts for my oil changes to submit a request for a new motor costing 12k. (warranty) I am picking up my car tomorow with the new engine and was wondering if they put the same motor or REV-UP motor because its an 03?
Any one else have this OC problem with a 2003?

no motor is safe from OC. If u are unlucky u will have a motor like that no matter what year ur or any car is. Yes Rev-ups are known for this problem and 03-04 aren't, but that doesn't mean 03-04s can NOT have those problems.

As far as the 23 pages of testing, that is a misunderstanding. The TSB may be 23 pages long (I haven't checked) but the test goes like this, simplified of course:
1. Fill car with oil to "H" mark on dipstick.
2. Drive car for xxx number of miles (there are different ranges on the TSB)
3. Check oil level and compare to chart in TSB.
It's not like they will be hooking up an EKG to your car or anything, simple drive and check test. They may do a cylinder compression test but it likely won't diagnose oil consumption. Search for the TSB and take it into the dealership with you.
Good Luck.

They had ran the test the day i had taken it in and didnt even tell me to go drive around for X amount of miles. they simply said that it was burning oil and that they would put a new motor in. would you happen to know if its going to be the same motor?

I had to drive my car 1000 mile after they topped it off. Did this 3 times. What my dealer told me was that they can't make a decision to give you a new motor. They can submit data from testing your car (via monitoring the oil levels every 1000 mi for 3000 mi) to infiniti and corporate makes a decision as to whether you get one or not. So i'm confused to how you could take the car there, leave it for a few hours, and they decide that you need a new engine due to oil consumption? They must have referenced something relating to your VIN and checked out a few things without actually witnessing that the car was burning oil.

IMO, it only takes a SM a couple hours to figure out if an engine has oil burning problems..i thnk the whole test thing they make you do is usually up to the SM's themselves. If the SM is really cool and isnt a jack*** they will tell you straight forward that your car is burning unusual amounts of oil with just running a couple of tests. if they wanna be a d*** they can make you run x amount of miles to see if its actually going low. honestly, dont you think they can figure out if a cars burning oil with a compression test? I think its all up to how cool the dealership your working with are..just my opinion..

TSB does not pertain to non revup VQ's.
They don't replace non revup VQ's with revup long blocks pt# 10102-AC7M9.
Non revup replacement I got from a non revup owner on his replacement due to OC was #10102-AM8M1.
Think they still use old OC warranty replacement standards on those; 1qt/1000mi or worse to qualify.
TSB = revup only and it's different replacement standards.
Prior to rev up TSB, 1qt/1000mi or worse was it's replacement standard too.
Sometimes depending on situation (and dealer), only shortblock is replaced with non revup's and use your old heads.
Push for a longblock, especially if your VQ was very low on oil and made or makes weird noises.
Sounds like a cool dealer to me.

if not i think a lemon law attorney could have fun with this. or i could just drop off the car at the EPA so they could see how much oil it's burning, and provide links to all the threads on driver and my350

ill find out tomorow when i pick up my car, but im 90% sure they are just going to put in another Non rev-up
but hey revup + brembos on an 03 would be sex!
nah, they don't change to revups. the entire motor is different because the exhaust cams have phasing instead of just the intake, so the entire harness, computer, and everything is different. be glad, the revup is a big fat fail
