Umm...Italian police....thats not a mega bucks car like it is here....its only a gallardo.... Kinda like how in Europe, 50K mercedes (here) are taxis.

The article said that they had the gallardo "in possession." I think its more likely that they confiscated the car/repossessed it and instead of auctioning it, are using it as a patrol car. I know a lot of undercover detectives (DTs) in NYC, drive around in cars that they repo'd. I always see this one cop driving up in a hooked up civic in chinatown, trying to goad on wannabe racers and then ticket them.

No they drive a mix of 97-present E320, E430 and the turbo diesel equivilent of the two. I was there 6 months ago for the first time and was quite shocked by it.

They didn't confiscate the car. The car was donated by Lamborghini/Volkswagen to the state police to celebrate their 152nd birthday (and probably to get all the free publicity)...Lambo Story

Not necessarily. There are models that are not imported here. For example, when I was in Korea last week on business, I saw the new 7 series beamer. Only, it was a 725i. They don't import that stateside. I also remember seeing new S320 and C160 Benzes. If I remember correctly, the only S classes that are imported stateside are the S500 and S600. And the only C classes are the C230 and above.

The price is also very dependant on exchange rate. The cost is definately not the same.

In 1986, when I live in Germany (Army Brat, Dad was stationed in Ansbach), my father bought an M3 (the old body style) new. This car was about $33,000 states side but he only paid about $21,000 US for it (with US specs installed in Germany). Thats about a 33% discount, and the Army shipped it home for free. So he had a brand new M3 and was paying like $275 a month.

At the time the exchange rate was 3.10DM to $1 or so.

But the prices themselves are not exactly the same.

Oh please, you an idoit. Stop the hating. It is a nice, extreme performance machine here and there. It doesn't matter how much is it over there that doesn't discount the fact its a badass performance machine and more. 2nd, it is not cheap there either, a Gallardo goes for 145,180 Euro (MSRP) there, go ahead and multiple by 1.2 USD exchange rate and see how much it would cost you to buy it overthere. Don't go around spewing bs before you have the facts.

That's like saying G35 is nothing in Japan cuz they have police version of G35coupe.
