wat G? i know the new g37s need to use a "special oil " that nissan supplies to prevent engine noise, as well as the 09 maximas. not sure if your talking about coupe or sedan. either way this doesnt apply to you so have you tried a different gas station? i had a station giving me false premium a couple times.

Do the oil consumption test. If excessive oil is getting past your rings then it's diluting the octane of your gasoline, thereby causing pinging. You need to talk to your dealer about this and search for oil consuption on this forum.

Yup I ping too. Cali 91 oct, 298hp revup VQ. It sux when it pings. Worse on hot days and even more so when everything is heat-soaked from sitting for a bit, then drive again.

Agree about OC killing oct. My old VQ was a burner and ping got worse as the OC continued. My current VQ not as bad with OC, but still is pinging as described above.

What do you mean the dealer won't do anything about it. If you fall within the guidelines of the TSB then they should replace your engine. You may need to go to a different dealer.

As far as the 91 octane goes, that's not the issue. Locally we have 91 that is 10% ethanol and I have no pinging issues.

Then there must be another underlying issue with mine (I have many theories), being my VQ replacement has minimal OC now and only runs on Shell V-Power 91.

See you have the Osiris tune...that's why you don't ping on 91

I burn a quart every 2000k miles, so oil consumption is acceptable, though I do notice a lot of blow-by in the plenum.

OP let me know if you are able to fix yours.
where are you located? How close is a different Infiniti dealer? When you are burning 1qt every 2k miles how are you driving?

Sure they'll tell you they can't hear it because they may possibly need to give you a new freakin engine. Tell them you want to go with and or drive the car yourself with the technician in the car. He can't deny it if your right there with him and you hear it.
